Description
Prog icons YES will release a brand-new mix of their album "Fly From Here - Return Trip", featuring the "Drama" lineup and new lead vocals by Trevor Horn, to coincide with their 50th-anniversary celebrations.

The original 2011 release of "Fly From Here" featured the band members who appeared on "Drama": Chris Squire, Steve Howe, Alan White, Geoff Downes, plus Benoit David on lead vocals with Trevor Horn in the role of producer.

The addition of Trevor's lead vocals has produced a genuine sequel to "Drama". "Fly From Here - Return Trip" was developed as a labor of love for all involved and the new vocals were recorded over the last two years amidst other commitments. Trevor began re-recording the lead vocals the day after he guested with YES at the Royal Albert Hall in 2016 and within 24 hours the rest of the band had joined him at his studio. Additional overdubs by other members have also been added.

In addition to remixing parts of the album, Trevor has added personal liner notes and the sleeve design features the painting by Roger Dean originally used on the inside of the 2011 edition.

Trevor Horn says: "I really enjoyed listening to Alan and Chris playing together again. Finishing off the album was a labor of love."

"Fly From Here - Return Trip" also contains a previously unreleased song, "Don't Take No For An Answer" recorded in 2011, with Steve Howe on lead vocals. Additionally, the full-length version of "Hour Of Need" is included. This has previously only been included as a Japanese bonus track.

"It is great to have the original 'Drama' lineup playing 'Fly From Here' plus several other songs Trevor had a big part in writing," comments Steve Howe.

Geoff Downes adds: "It's quite amazing what Trevor has done with the album and the way it has turned out. It is most refreshing and adds a whole new dimension to the original recordings from 2011. I think the fans will appreciate it as a genuine sequel to the 'Drama' album, and embrace it as a valuable part of our YES50 celebrations."

The album is a long-awaited treat for all YES fans and following Chris Squire's passing in 2015, represents the last chance for fans to hear a follow-up to the classic YES release "Drama", which reached No. 2 in the U.K. album charts in 1980.

Yes to Re-Release ‘Fly From Here’ LP With New Vocals

Yes fans will gather together to celebrate the band's 50th anniversary next month, and among the goodies the group has planned for the convention will be Fly From Here - Return Trip, a limited-edition version of their 2011 album with new lead vocals performed by producer Trevor Horn, who also remixed the record.

Horn, who also founded the Buggles (the group that recorded "Video Killed the Radio Star"), had previously sung lead for Yes on their 1980 album, Drama. Horn produced the original Fly From Here LP, which included songs he had written for an abandoned Buggles record.

The 2011 album was the only Yes studio album to feature lead vocals by Benoit David, who took over for Jon Anderson in 2008 after the band's longtime singer had to bow out of a tour due to respiratory issues. David had previously sung in a Yes tribute band called Close to the Edge. He also appeared on In the Present – Live From Lyon.

David remained with the group for another year, but then had respiratory issues of his own and was replaced by Jon Davison, who remains the band's singer.

The Yes U.K. Fan Convention will take place at the London Palladium on March 24-25, the same days the band will be playing the venue to close out their British tour. In addition to being able to purchase Fly From Here - Return Trip, fans will be able to take a bus tour of London that visits sites crucial to the band's history, see displays of Yes memorabilia and Roger Dean's artwork and take part in question-and-answer sessions with special guests, including Dean.

A portion of the money taken in by the convention will be donated to the Christie Hospital in Manchester and Kangaroos, a charity for special needs and disabled children.

Very odd, although the music is perfectly suited for Trevor Horn, who also had initially sung on some of this in 1980 when it didn't make it to Drama.

But, David did a fine job on Fly From Here, so this is bizarre.

What a mess Yes are.

There is no point in re-releasing the album with Horn vocals.

It was a decent album, but I don't see what purpose a re-configured version of this serves.

Yes is over and if this is all they can offer to their hardcore fans after the death of Chris Squire, then maybe it's time to have the 50th anniversary be the swan song for what's left of "yes."

Ich. I partially agree. I could see Anderson, Wakeman, Howe & White morally using the name Yes (not sure of the legalities; does Squire's family own the name?). The current "Yes" is a joke.

horn is one of my unsung stars of the rock era.

outside of music websites, no one, and i mean no one, knows who he is, or what a massive talent he is.

i thought the vocals on the last 2 yes albums were below par, and horn doing the vocals will, without question, make it better.

plus, you can count on this hitting the used bins very quickly.

Don't think I'll be getting this. Didn't get the Topographic Drama live album either. If they would have just done a complete re-record of the Fly From Here suite, and included that as a third, bonus disc on the Topographic Drama live album, that would have been interesting and probably would have been something I purchased. Not really interested in hearing Horn vocals on "side two" of the Fly From Here album.

Agreed. Horn is a huge talent, and the fact that he is remixing the album as well as rerecording the vocals is a draw for me. I'll get this for sure. I collect pretty much everything he's involved with.

there are some really amazing videos on you tube of the producers live.

if you liked their one, sadly, and only studio album they do a couple of covers that really really well done.

the producers 'made in basing street' came as both a 1CD and a 2CD set.

the 2nd CD has some extended versions that were better than the originals and a couple of tunes not on the album.

there was also a japanese version (i think japanese) that had one additional instrumental not on the 2CD set.

Would love to see another archival live release to follow up the Progeny box; anything through 1977 would satisfy me greatly.

How limited was the original release of Fly From Here? I know an album without Jon on vox would not be a big seller, but was surprised when looking for a copy on Amazon that it is seemingly OOP and much pricier than I might have expected.

i am amazed that this is OOP.

they could not have made very many of them, because the idea that they sold that many is unfathomable, it just is not very good IMHO.

I've always enjoyed Fly From Here and did see them perform it here on Long Island during that tour. Benoit David was a good interpreter of Yes songs and I was disappointed when he couldn't continue on (though Jon Davidson has become a very good replacement himself).

The Fly From Here Suite is actually quite beautiful and has a soaring melody. It was a nice return to a clsssic sound. I actually really enjoy the latter Yes albums like The Ladder, Magnification and Fly From Here, all very worthy. But I am of course a big big Yes fan who attends their fan cruises and loves to meet the guys whenever I can.

They are all top notch to me.

Not for me. I just got through listening to the recorded version and Benoit sounds wonderful. Didn't care for the rest of the album, but the suite of Fly From Here songs makes we wish I owned this album.

I would definitely check out the album if he does really release it. Drama is my favorite Yes album.

I don't remember seeing it on the overstock lists, so I suspect you're right; not many were made.
