The Wait is over…Actually, it’s back! Nearly three decades after going out of print, Metallica will release a remastered version of The $5.98 EP - Garage Days Re-Revisited on April 13, 2018 as part of their ongoing remasters series via their own Blackened Recordings label.

Originally released over 30 years ago on August 21, 1987, the collection features the band covering songs by early Metallica influencers such as Diamond Head, Holocaust, Killing Joke, Budgie, and The Misfits. The five songs from the EP were later included as a part of the 1998 multi-platinum release Garage, Inc., but the band felt it was time to bring it back in the original formats!

Garage Days Re-Revisited was remastered by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood, CA.

In typical 80s fashion, there will be a special limited edition longbox featuring a lenticular cover.

I'm a sucker for lenticular covers so I've gotta get the longbox version. There's a vinyl version as well.

Would this mean Garage Inc will not be remastered, or would they just delete these tracks, or do Garage Inc anyway with these?

Either way, I'll get this and relive high school again.

I think it was called "The $9.98 CD" when it was originally released on that medium back in the day.

Further still -- it's currently just $6.97.

So has anyone else picked this up? I just received the longbox version because as I said upthread, gotta have the lenticular cover! Anyway, I am playing the CD now, and it sounds great. Nice air to the drums, crunchy guitars. The E.P. really delivers a concentrated blast of Metallica, and the nostalgia factor of the longbox is icing on the cake.

Wouldn't touch this with a 10-foot pole. The original issue is one of the very best sounding CDs in my collection. A 2018 CD reissue sounding better than the original...not a snowflakes chance in hell.

Could very well be worth the purchase if the only version of these songs you have in your collection is from the poorly mastered "Garage INC" release.

LOL, I'm surprised that massive online protests haven't broken out over Metallica's irresponsible re-introduction of the horrific longbox.
