So it looks like Tom Waits has regained the rights to his Elektra catalog and will be licencing them to Anti-/Epitaph? It would be nice if he could find some bonus material to add to some of these titles. I am already catalog on him, so don't need straight reissues, but it will be good to have these back on the market for those who don't yet have them.

I never bought the Elektra albums on CD in hope one day this might happen.

I'm curious what will follow.

Slightly more info and this is great news, but what about the Island albums???

From Gibson.com:

In the latest announcement of a reissue series from a famed artist’s back catalog, gravel-voiced troubadour Tom Waits has revealed that his first seven albums – from his 1973 debut Closing Time to 1980’s Heartattack and Vine – will all be remastered and reissued on digital and vinyl formats.

Wait’s first six albums, as well as the 1975 live album Nighthawks at the Diner were all released on Elektra Asylum Records and many have long been out of print. The new series will be reissued on Wait’s label since 1991, Anti- Records, with the first vinyl release - Closing Time – coming on March 9. The remaining albums - Heart of Saturday Night (1974), Nighthawks at the Diner (1975), Small Change (1976), Foreign Affairs (1977), Blue Valentine (1978), and Heartattack & Vine (1980) will be released on vinyl through 2018.

Waits had also previously announced a reissue series of his Anti- Records catalog last year. That series included his critically acclaimed 1999 album Mule Variations, as well as the 2002 albums Blood Money and Alice and Real Gone (2004), Glitter and Doom Live (2009) and Bad As Me (2011).

Closing Time has now been pushed back to March 23rd, so all of the remasters will be released on that day. The pre-order prices have all dropped by $3, as well.

I've picked up a couple of these and I think they sound great and they are (for the most part) such excellent, unique albums.

I'd say they are a little louder and full of more bottom end, but I like the way they sound, at least the two that I have.

Has anyone else gotten some of these?

I got Foreign Affairs, Small Change, Closing Time, and Blue Valentine. These are my first copies of these and think they sound wonderful.
I'm still most fond of his music beginning with Swordfishtrombones, but am enjoying discovering some of his early period that I never heard before.
