Patrick Warburton Set to Return in The Tick

Don’t worry citizens, The Tick is back to save the day!

Broad-shouldered Patrick Warburton only sported his blue antennae for one season the first go-around, but the critically acclaimed superhero parody is now being revived on Amazon, a source tells PEOPLE.

The cult-classic series is based on a comic book by Ben Edlund and was first brought to television as an animated series that enjoyed three seasons of success in the mid 1990s. In early 2002, Fox canceled Warburton's live-action version (which also starred a pre-Lost Nestor Carbonell) after just nine episodes.

But no one can stop The Tick from keeping watch over The City.

Warburton – who has also appeared on Seinfeld and Rules of Engagement – recently inked a deal with Amazon and Sony to reprise his role, with Edlund producing and writing, according to the source.

Fans can only hope Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood will once again design Warburton's ab-tastic blue body suit.

Cool, but it needs Batmanuel.

It really needs all four of the team for that chemistry. Here's hoping!

I've said it before, and here I'm saying it again: If I could have one short lived Fox series back from 2001 I would take the Tick over Firefly anyday of the week. Assuming the rest of the cast is onboard I am very happy about this.

it really was a great show and I'm surprised that Fox didn't give it more time to find an audience. Considering that the powers that be gave the X-files so much breathing room, they must have changed hands in upper management in between the two. Hard to believe the show was like 13 years ago.

I saw a video preview today of Amazon's The Tick series.
Looked pretty good. But that wasn't Patrick Warburton in the suit, though.
It was Peter Serafinowicz .

Here's some more info:

Quote:
Amazon Prime Video released a first look at its superhero live-action comedy series “The Tick.” Part one of the first season will be available on Friday, Aug. 25.

The trailer promises “an epic tale ripe with destiny, adventure, blood loss, and good against evil,” as the new Amazon original centers on Arthur Everest, an underdog accountant with zero powers. Upon learning his city is owned by a long-thought dead global super villain, he falls in league with a blue superhero, The Tick.

English actor Peter Serafinowicz stars as The Tick, alongside the ensemble cast including Griffin Newman, Valorie Curry, Jackie Earle Haley, Yara Martinez, Brendan Hines, Scott Speiser, and Michael Cerveris. Creator and executive producer Ben Edlund is joining the cast for a panel at San Diego Comic-Con on July 21.

Edlund created the fictional superhero for a newsletter mascot as a spoof of American comic book superheros in 1986. “The Tick” was previously adapted as an animated series in 1994, and then as a live-action sitcom starring Patrick Warburton in 2001.

“The Tick” is executive produced by Edlund (“Supernatural”), Barry Josephson (“Bones”) and Barry Sonnenfeld (Lemony Snicket’s “A Series of Unfortunate Events”), directed by Wally Pfister (The Dark Knight), and written by Edlund. The show is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television.

Part 2 of “The Tick” will stream in early 2018.  Amazon released photos from the revival series last August.

Amazon's 'The Tick' Renewed for Second Season

Amazon Studios has handed out a renewal to The Tick for a second season.

The new season of 10 more episodes of the half-hour superhero series will begin production in 2018 and is set to bow in 2019 exclusively on Prime Video in over 200 countries. The Tick is based on the acclaimed comic about an accountant who realizes his city is owned by a global supervillain long thought to be dead. He falls in with a strange blue superhero as he uncovers the conspiracy.

The creator of the series, Ben Edlund, will return along with leads Peter Serafinowicz as The Tick and Griffin Newman as Arthur, with additional casting to be announced.

"Ben has created a resounding hit while Peter and Griffin have brought Tick and Arthur to indelible life," said Sharon Yguado, head of scripted series at Amazon Studios in a statement.

Yguado, who helped turn The Walking Dead into a global phenomenon when she was at Fox International, in late 2017 took over responsibility for scripted programming at Amazon with an eye to an all-audience hit. Her arrival followed the exits of Joe Lewis, head of comedy and drama at the studio, and Roy Price as Amazon Studios head. Lewis' departure came in the wake of news he faced conflict of interest allegations at Amazon, where he cast his girlfriend, actress Yara Martinez, in The Tick.

The role, originally designed as a guest star in the pilot and conceived as a male character, was reworked after Martinez was cast and The Tick was picked up to series. She was elevated to series regular with the character retooled to a more prominent role.

"We can't wait to bring fans more of the Tick universe soon. I am so excited that Amazon wants to continue this wildly fruitful collaboration and that this amazing cast gets to stay together, and that we get to build this mythos further, wider, deeper, and taller," Ben Edlund, executive producer, added in his own statement as the series puts the recent executive purge at Amazon Studios behind it.

The first season of The Tick also starred Jackie Earle Haley, Valorie Curry, Yara Martinez and Brendan Hines. The series, a co-production with Sony Pictures Television, is executive produced by Edlund, Barry Josephson and Barry Sonnenfeld.

I liked the first half of Season One, second half coming in February(it seems to have taken forever). This Tick series is a little darker than the original, but it's pretty good. Good to see that a 2nd season is coming(along with a 3rd Season of Ash Vs Evil Dead makes for quality TV viewing)...
