Tracey Thorn’s first solo album of entirely original material for seven years. Record will be released on 2nd March 2018 via Merge. On Record, the synth-driven tracks arrive and leave with a punchy sub-three-minute directness. “I wanted it to be a record you’d listen to in the daytime,” Tracey says. “On your headphones or on the move. Not necessarily in the evening, or in your bedroom.” For all its no-fuss pop brevity, the album rotates around Sister, a dubby nine-minute Compass Point-style disco jam where Tracey is joined again by Warpaint’s rhythm section and glorious backing vocals from Corinne Bailey Rae. Across four decades Tracey’s songs and writing have offered up a clear-eyed woman’s view of the immediate world around her; from the acerbic teen love songs of her first early-eighties band Marine Girls, through sixteen years as one half of articulate multi-million-selling duo Everything But The Girl to her recent acclaimed memoirs and journalism."

as almost always with tracey (and ben), the lyrics do NOT disappoint.
i am certainly looking forward to this release, especially now that i can hear some upbeat flare to it.
however, i can't overlook that tracey's work quality and songs were markedly superior when working with ben as EBTG.

Wow, her voice seems noticably lower on this video than before. It'll be interesting to see if that carries over to all the songs on the new release.
I loved her Christmas/holiday album, as much as about anything she did with EBTG. While I'd love to have another EBTG album, I'm disinclined to bash her solo stuff as markedly inferior.

just one audiophile's humble opinion, which i certainly wouldn't say was akin to any bashing.

is that better, T SmithPage?

No biggie. I'm a fan of all things EBTG, have seen Ben live (but sadly not Tracey or EBTG) and follow Tracey on twitter. Any product from either makes me happy.

i did catch EBTG live at a superb venue with both of their voices sounded amazing. i won't call them great entertainers, but that's never been a reason for my music-buying and listening habits. it was a good show.
