PBS is showing a live music program during its current pledge drive called "A Cat's Attic." It's a Cat Stevens concert recorded during his tour in 2016. One of the inducements for pledging is a live CD/DVD combo of the program, featuring 20 songs. Does anyone have info on a commercial release? I can find nothing about general availability or release date for this concert title.

As of right now there is no general release scheduled for A Cat's Attic.

if you google 'a cat's attic" it comes up on a couple of different PBS sites.

$96 donation for the Cd/DVD combo

or $156 for the CD/DVD and 'the laughing apple".

Yeah, that was a real bugger to hunt down. I have a promo copy, i.e., just the CD, and one in a digipack, both from Disney Pearl Series, circa 2009.

Here's a link to one PBS site selling the set, if anyone is so inclined:

It was a great tour and a must buy if it was priced better for general release.

i luckily got one too on ebay, i was shocked at cheaply i got (less than $20 if i recall correctly) but, mine does not have the 2 bonus tracks :(

i think that the only way to get the bonus tracks was to order it directly off of the shopping network or, if you get really lucky, finding one on ebay: and the problem there, most sellers have no idea that was even a Cd with bonus tracks.

My promo copy has one bonus track on it, "Go Fish," beyond what the more official version has.

Not that it is indicative of any eventual general release for "A Cat's Attic", but several years ago PBS was showing the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band And Friends "Circlin' Back" anniversary concert during pledge month, and offered the CD and DVD for sale as a fundraiser, only available when you pledged at least $75-$120.

Patience can be rewarded, however. In September 2016, a live CD and Amazon exclusive CD/DVD of the NGDB concert were released domestically, for under fifteen bucks.

If this were the entire show it would be a no brainer for me, but it looks like it's just the first half or so. It's too bad because I saw him on this tour and I think it was the best show I've ever seen. I have a broadcast quality show from the previous year and that will suffice for me.

I just received the CD/DVD release of "A Cat's Attic" from my local PBS station, after pledging and paying $96 last month. This digi-pack has packaging appropriate for what I assume will be an eventual retail release (full artwork, credits, even a die cut forming the peak of a house at the top to illustrate the "Cat's Attic" title). There is apparently no information on a retail release date at this time.

Although the track list contains 19 songs, the package states that the running time is about 56 minutes. That means the songs average about 3 minutes each, which seems too short. I'll be listening/watching within a few days and will post my thoughts on the release afterward.

i don't know jim, cat stevens did a lot of really short songs throughout his career. that run time isn't surprising to me at all.

his last one "the laughing apple" was quite short also.

A few thoughts after listening to the CD and watching the DVD of the Yusuf/Cat Stevens live release "A Cat's Attic":

The music that's included is fantastic-- 18 songs ("Where Do the Children Play" is listed as a 19th song, but is not on the CD or the DVD), mostly acoustic guitars and piano with electric bass on most tunes and electric guitar on several. An old Y/CS associate, Alun Davies, appears on several tracks on acoustic guitar and vocals. Y/CS's vocals are wonderful, his voice has been well-preserved over the years although he sounds a little out of breath during his spoken song introductions.

All in all, a very entertaining and worthwhile 56 minutes of music.

The one problem, and by far the oddest thing about this release, is the 56-minute running time. It makes no sense at all when set lists from this late-2016 tour reveal that 30-35 songs were routinely performed. So as many as 17 songs were left on the cutting room floor. SO disappointing that so many of these great performances are not included.

If there is a general release of this (so far) PBS-only pledge drive CD/DVD (the Eagle Vision logo appears on the package, so a general release is likely), I really hope it's the full performance. I would buy this again in a heartbeat to get the full show. It's really a shame that an artist who withdrew from music for decades and has now come back to performing has released only half a show. This is one of the strangest marketing decisions I have ever seen in the world of popular music.

Track list:
Don't Be Shy
Here Comes My Baby
The First Cut Is the Deepest
I Love My Dog
Matthew & Son
Northern Wind (The Death of Billy the Kid)
Trouble
Miles From Nowhere
On the Road to Find Out
Tea for the Tillerman
Into White
Wild World
Moonshadow
Sitting
Oh Very Young
Father & Son
If You Want to Sing Out, Sing Out
Peace Train
