From my longggggg collection of MTV that I have transferred from VHS, here is one to the day from 11-24-84, 33 years ago and what they were playing at this time-frame.
You will see the currently popular, the classic, the obscure and bizarre and plenty of cool things, and some not so cool which is what made it all so wonderful.

Too bad Rubber Rodeo never got more popular (I believe 1 of their albums has never been on USA cd). I really liked them.

I think pop music in '84-'85 was the best it had been received since '64-'65, and hasn't been as popular since then. Just my point of view.

I remember a guy in my apartment complex who recorded (VCR) like the first two or 3 days. Man, I wish I had his contact number.

I had a friend who did the same, and then frequently recorded random days for the next few years. I'd love to have some of those now. I'd even buy them if they released them on home media. But imagine the nightmare trying to get music clearances! I still have copies of the ALTV episodes when Weird Al would host promoting a new album. They were hilarious.

Interesting list; it wasn't too long after this that the pop music market splintered, and you stopped getting all of these different genres in one place. I think we've actually lost something when that happened.

I had some VHS tapes I filled with early videos. I think I tossed them, because they were recorded on a TERRIBLE 1st Gen VHS machine. The audio was AM radio quality at best.

I probably have about 1500-2000 hours of classic MTV, not sure of the total.
I have the first 4 hours in pristine condition and it's hilarious watching all the mistakes.
I will always have fond memories of MTV from 1981 even up to about 1997 or so.

Since they started it pre-recorded and didn't synch things up, a video would be introduced and it wasn't the right band or they'd come out of a video and say, "Hope you enjoyed that classic from Styx," when it was The Who. Some videos had the wrong chyrons or none at all. Sometimes the screen went blank for minutes at a time or froze. They were making it up as they went along at first!
