I went with Trading Places, and would take Ghost Busters next if I could take two.

Never seen trading places. Or, if I did, it obviously left no impression on me.

Had to go with The Blues Brothers as my favourite movie with Dan Aykroyd in it, but the "best Dan Aykroyd movie" for me would be Dragnet.

Yes. I'm going with Blues Brothers as well.

Best movie: Ghostbusters

Best theme song: Dr. Detroit

A bit of trivia: the theme from Spies Like Us was Paul McCartney's final US Top 10 single (and is likely to remain so).

I enjoyed most of his earlier movies. Hard to pick, though.
Many of which I saw then and enjoyed, I have no interest of ever seeing again.
I throw a movie like Trading Places into this category. Ghost Busters, too.

I have watched Blues Brothers many times, though, and I will again. And one
of these days, I will watch 1941 again.

Streaming on Netflix if you have it.

Just watched it last night, still hilarious.

It's the basis of most people's understanding of commodities trading and short selling.

Was it an accurate portrayal?

Actual trading in those days? I have no idea. But the basic concept? Spot on.

In case you wanted to follow what they were doing in Trading Places, to figure out how much money they made, or to see why it bankrupted the Duke brothers here's a website.

And Junkie, according to the website, it was not entirely accurate.

I went with the Blues Brothers, although he can't help but be overshadowed a bit by Belushi. Trading Places and Ghostbusters were also classics. The starring vehicles were less successful, and later in his career he started doing more dramatic roles, some of which were surprisingly good.

This thread certainly weighs against one of my long held tenets though - namely that I would probably give up all of the (routinely high quality) movies made by the original cast of SNL in order to eliminate all of the dreck movies made by subsequent cast members of SNL. I find so few of them funny, that I'm usually willing to give up the 8-10 absolutely classics I would have to.

I tend to be in the market only long-term, and never much appreciated short-selling.
I understand it well enough, but I don't have to like it, especially these days when I
see all sorts of viral campaigns that seemed design to spread lies and uncertainty
in order to make a quick bundle manipulating the stocks that I own. Ugh.

I love The Blues Brothers and Dragnet, but those are both basically one-note performances. Trading Places showed that he had some range, so I'm going with that.

The Great Outdoors is more a John Candy movie.

The best movie on this list is Driving Miss Daisy. But that's not a Dan Aykroyd movie.

If just being a good part to a great movie were enough, I'd vote for Tommy Boy or Grosse Pointe Blanke instead.

I'll pick Trading Places.

It showed he could hold his own without Belushi by his side.
