If they do a half-decent job of this (good selection of tracks, nice packaging) I'm there!

It figures! I finally broke down a couple of years ago on a New England "Jimbo Lunch" and bought my first-ever Ringo CD, Blast From Your Past.

Now it will be bettered by a newly remastered CD with more songs!

Ugghhhh!!!

Ringo has released albums on many different labels during his solo career. I wonder if Capitol will actually license tracks from other companies, or if this will basically be A Blast From Your Past...Plus.

Guess it's time for me to pick up "Blast From Your Past" before it's deleted.

I saw in Wikipedia that Ringo's got a new studio album coming soon, too, called Liverpool 8. I couldn't find any mention of it anywhere else I looked, though. His Web site didn't mention either the new greatest hits of L8.

Does anyone else have info on L8?

Capitol has now officially scheduled the new Ringo Starr compilation for release on August 28th. It will be entitled Photograph: The Very Best Of Ringo, and will come in two flavours -- a standalone CD and a "Collector's Edition" CD/DVD set.

What, nothing from "Ringo the 4th" , "Bad Boy" or "Old Wave" ?
I understand not including anything from "Ringo the 4th", but they could have included something from the other two.
I'll be getting this for the bonus disc alone. There's alot on there I dont have...

Right off the bat, without checking to see if something is missing from his recent records, this looks like a very good song selection. The big omissions seem to be all the "hits" on the previous Best Of from Rhino in '89. They used all of Blast and almost none of Vol 2. How can they be hits one time and not now? I know some of them were streching it then but to omit almost all of them. And I agree about Old Wave. At least 2-3 off it should have been included.

Ringo has a string of 7 straight Top 10 hits in the early 70s. But after moving from Apple/Capitol, he only scored 3 more singles that landed on the Hot 100. The only charting hits missing from this set are "Oo--Wee" (which was the b-side of "Goodnight Vienna") and a cover of "Hey Baby" which only climbed to #74.

I give Capitol credit for at least licensing two chart hits, plus a whole disc of rarities, many of which are lifted from tribute CDs, or were featured on other artists' albums.

I wish! If the release date is August, we're likely a month or more away from promo copies. :sigh:

IT will be nice to finally have "I Call Your Name" on CD. I have a VHS of that Lennon tribute show, and when I've made a Ringo comp in the past I've included it by recording it off the VHS.

It's too bad that "Don't Go..." is included from Time Takes Time over such great songs like Golden Blunders.

And King of Broken Hearts seemed like a given too.

One song that didn't make the cut that I would have enjoyed is "Bye Bye Blackbird". This goes back in my mind to a late night local TV host in Detroit and Cleveland called the Ghoul. For years on Saturday night, he played low budget, silly horror films (the original "Little Shop of Horrors", etc.) with comedic/horror breaks throughout. His bumper music was almost always Beatle tunes. I remember hearing "Bye Bye Blackbird" for the first time on his show along with things like "Remember" and "Well, Well, Well" for the first time from the John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band album.

The NME confirms the CD/DVD packaging that Jimbo posted about:

http://www.nme.com/news/ringo-starr/29048

>> Ringo Starr's solo works set for digital release

18.Jun.07 11:10pm

Ringo Starr's solo recordings will be made available for digital download for the first time this summer.

The former Beatle has signed an agreement with Capitol/EMI that will allow the label to release his back catalog digitally beginning on August 28.

He has also entered into an agreement with his long-time record label to release and market his future solo recordings.

Also on August 28, a new 'best of' collection will be made available digitally and as a collector's edition CD/DVD. The career-spanning collection is entitled 'Photograph: The Very Best of Ringo Starr' and features 20 tracks.

The collector's edition includes several bonus features, including previously unreleased film clips of the legendary drummer, and the video for 'Act Naturally'. <<
