Description
Due for release on 17th November 2017 comes the 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition of the Moody Blues’ Days Of Future Passed. This 2CD/DVD deluxe set includes the full original 1967 stereo mix, which is being released on CD here for the first time. Due to a damaged master tape of the original mix, the album had been remixed in stereo in 1972 and since then it is this later mix, which has been used on all CD reissues. Now that technology allows for the original master to be repaired, the album can be fully represented on CD1 of the set for the first time. This new set also includes a 5.1 surround sound mix derived from the original 1972 Quad mix. Additionally the DVD comprises previously unreleased video footage of the band performing three key tracks from the album at MIDEM on 24th January 1968, eight weeks after its release. The 2CD/DVD set includes a poster designed by Ray Thomas.

Bump: Added the tracklist to the first post. This edition will include the original 1967 stereo mix (never before on CD), B-sides and alternate versions, the 2.0 mix in hi-res, and the most enjoyable kind of surround mix (extrapolated out to 5.1 from the vintage quad). Sorry, Renny, but this is a must-get.

Yes, one can find many online discussions about the original mix and the CD mix and all the tiny differences along the way. I barely noticed any differences, probably because I went several years between listening to my original vinyl and the first CD I owned. I replaced the seven "core" CD's when the remasters came out. I'll probably get this; there are a lot of bonus tracks I've never heard. I hope it's not brickwalled.

The 2006 SACD release was suppposed to be 5.1 (even says it on the "box"), but ended up as 4.0. Do we KNOW that this will be 5.1 or just what the promo material says so far?

Would like to know. Have come to the conclusion that I don't really dig quad. I think I'm too used to 5.1 and find quad to be odd sounding for the most part.

PBS is showing a film of them performing the entire album during their late November/early December fundraising drives. The show was filmed in Toronto in July of this year and the following page says they used a live orchestra. When I saw them this summer, the orchestral parts were taped. Check your local listings, as they say.
