Favorite albums that never got accompanying tours because of exceptional circumstances. If they had managed to tour, it would have been incredible.

REM's Automatic for the People comes to mind immediately.

The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper through Abbey Road (they quit touring).

Big Star's 3rd (they'd already split up).

Ride's Tarantula (ditto).

That's a big one as I was on The Smiths bus and they broke up. :(

I love Emotional Rescue from the Stones and they did not tour it in 1980.

I also love Face Dances from The Who and they only did a brief tour of Europe in 1981 and did not play the States due to Pete's heroin problems.

And I truly do love Music From The Elder by KISS and seeing that tour would've been cool as crap.

Music From The Elder was the first album that popped into mind. A tour for that could have been really cool. I'm in the middle of a two-part podcast about the album. Kiss is really down on it, but I think it's better than most give it credit for.

It wasn't until 1995 when I got to see any iteration of the Alan Parsons Project play live. Always assumed: (1) concert technology had advanced enough so the music could be reproduced onstage, and (2) Parsons & Co. found another revenue stream to compensate for declining record sales.

I would have liked to see the Traveling Wilburys do some traveling together.

Ya beat me to the punch on this one, Alan.

The show they were planning seemed more like a stage play than a concert from what I recall.

:agree: Unfortunately, there was only 6 weeks from the date of release of Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1, and Roy's sad and sudden death. Given the opportunity, I think it would have been a blockbuster tour!!

Or, I beat Alan!

In any case, I had read about an elaborate stage like a chess board, with knights and keyboard players on each side of the stage to supply the orchestral sounds.

That tour was only possible if the album sold, but it flopped, limping to #75 (although oddly, "World Without Heroes" actually did OK on the singles charts at #56 I believe) ending any hopes.

I was going to mention this and the Zep tour, but they both happened and there's plenty of good boots and in the case of Genesis several pro-shot shows as evidence of the tours.

Your Final Cut suggestion is a really good one though.

Gilmour and Mason wanted to tour, but Waters refused unless they bowed to his every whim.

If memory serves, the same people that played on the record played just once in public.

Is that really all the higher WWH got to? Seemed to me at the time it was higher than that. I'm guessing there's some info about a potential tour in the book about the album, but I haven't read it yet.

Miles' regular band played on this, sans Bill Evans who Miles brought in for the KoB sessions. Wynton Kelly was his regular pianist by this point.

Out of the final Talking Heads albums never toured, I would have loved Little Creatures. I've always been fond of that one, and the relative simplicity of those songs might have allowed for an interesting show on the other end of the Stop Making Sense spectrum.
