I always liked Patti Smiths version...maybe I will check it out. Hey I want the Maria Callas complete box set. Everyone has different tastes in music.

That's not just expanded...it's bombed with so much Debby Boone goodness. What's not to love?

Yeah. I'm the guy that bought the single. And listened to American Top 40 every week waiting to see if it was still number one. That said, I do like Kasey Cizyk's version a tad bit more. I'll probably take a second look at this.
But I did misread track 23 as Motley Crue's "God Bless The Children Of The Beast", and suddenly I have a compulsion to hear a Debby Boone cover of that.

I used to do the same. Wasn't it #1 for something like 7 weeks?

10 weeks. It was second only to Elvis Presley's "Don't Be Cruel/Hound Dog" with 11 weeks.
Olivia Newton-John's "Physical" tied with it a few years later.
That Top 3 stayed in tact until 1992 when Boyz II Men's "End of the Road" went 13 weeks at number one. That was quickly dethroned by Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" which hit its 14th week at #1 in 1993. Since that time, there have been around 30 more songs that have been #1 for 10 weeks or greater. (21 of those were from 2000 or later.)
The current record of 16 weeks at number one ("One Sweet Day," Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men, 1995) was just tied a few weeks ago by "Despacito" by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Bieber. (A song which, believe it or not, I still haven't heard. At least, I don't think I have.)
So, long runs at number one are not that uncommon anymore, but for awhile Debby's stood as quite a remarkable achievement especially given that it was a debut single.

I know quite a few people that have been wanting this album to come out on CD. With the single spending 10 weeks at #1, I know that even some people who liked the song originally got tired of it. But there are some really good songs on the album, and the bonus cuts (including the unreleased ones) make this release even more worth it. For anyone who liked the AC and soft pop artists of that era - Maureen McGovern, Mary MacGregor, Carpenters, etc. - they'd probably like this album. I hope Real Gone Records releases Debby's follow-up album "Midstream" on CD next - it has the follow-up single "California" and a great cut called "Come Share My Love", neither of which have ever been on CD.
Whether you like "You Light Up My Life" or not, it's still surprising that the album containing the #1 song of the entire decade has never been released on CD before. And it's not like those situations where the single was huge and the album stiffed. The album went platinum and reached #6 on the album chart. If Curb had released this album on CD in the mid-to-late '80s, it probably would have reached 100,000 in sales. These days, a reissue (other than a superstar's) is likely to have sales of about 3000-5000.

I really liked this version of the song when it came out, but after seeing the Didi Conn movie of the same name twice in theaters and buying the soundtrack, I really came to love Kasey Cizyk's version. Somehow I missed the CD release of the soundtrack - I need to find that someday.

I met Debby yesterday at the CD signing party in L.A. I found her to be really nice, and she hasn't aged at all. For anyone who's a fan of AC and pure pop of the late '70s, this is a really nice CD. 12 bonus cuts, many previously unreleased. I like a lot of the Boone Girls recordings (recorded with her 3 sisters, prior to "You Light Up My Life", 1969-1976) - fun pop. There will always be those people that don't like the hit song, but for those of you not in that category, this CD is totally worth getting.

I can't find any evidence there was a CD reissue of the You Light Up My Life soundtrack, which I'd now like to get. I checked amazon and ebay and other websites. Does anyone know if there was a legit CD release of this soundtrack, what label, and what country?

Interesting! The soundtrack album (which had Casey Cizyk's version, not Debby Boone's) went gold. (I wonder how many gold albums have never had CD reissues, even outside the US).
Also, when the soundtrack (on Arista - containing Casey's version) went gold, I read that the label's president Clive Davis put out a Billboard ad that rather snarkily said, "The only gold-certified album containing 'You Light Up My Life'." He had lost out to having the single version - Debbie's recording was on Curb/Warner, and her album handn't gone gold - that's why, to me, it seemed rather snarky to say that. However, a month or so later, Debby Boone's album went gold, and then onto platinum. So I guess she got the last laugh
