Got over 800 Zappa concerts on tape...maybe 2 dozen real cassettes.

As I was driving to the beach tonight to see the sunset, I said to my wife that we were listening to music (Sting) recorded on a format that's over 20 years old that even predated the CD. Nothing like listening to a mix tape in a car breezin' down the highway!

Try mix cd's! Easy to do with just about any cd burning software.

When my girlfriend and I were first dating I would create our own mix cassette tapes and head over to the Madeira Beach, Treasure Island and Indian Rocks Beach in my Mazda Rx-7.
I would call her and brag about a new cassette mix-tape I recorded and would you want to cruise the beach for a listen and a late night burger? She never said No (but was it the tape or the food?, ummm). Maybe both right?

She enjoyed mix tapes, burgers and drives along the beach? I'd say that's when you knew you had a keeper.

Did anyone have a car with a built-in 8-track player during the era of the cassette, where you had to hook up a converter which made cassettes sound all muddy? I would not call those the good ol' days. I still have several hundred cassettes but it's been years since I played any of them, although I prefer my homemade compilations of particular artists over anything officially released.

To this day my favorite music listening moments were in a car (I had 72 Chevy Nova) and blasting classic rock through a Pioneer cassette player hooked up to a power equalizer with Jensen triax speakers in the rear. One particular album that always sounded good at night was Pink Floyd's The Wall.
Now was it audiophile? No. But damn it was a fun time.
