Beatle scholar Doug Sulpy has a new book (physical and digital editions available) entitled "Invasion! The 1964 Video Guide"
In this new book, I take on the vastly confusing subject of Beatles video from their banner year of 1964 - examining and describing each surviving film or video clip, one by one. Whether it’s their feature film A Hard Day’s Night, a home movie shot during their US tour, or an appearance in an Australian newsreel, every available clip is here.
This isn’t just another Beatles video book, though. In “Invasion!,” everything is laid out for the reader just as I’d done in The Complete Beatles Audio Guide and Drugs, Divorce and a Slipping Image. Each clip is identified (if possible) and coded, making it easy to incorporate new material as it surfaces.
Why video? As I explain in the intro, I was never particularly interested in the subject until I realized a few years ago that studying footage of The Beatles offers a fascinating window into their history. If a picture is worth a thousand words, the sheer amount of 1964 footage, then, must be worth more than all of the histories of The Beatles put together.
For collectors, this book will be invaluable and will change the way you collect. Casual readers can simply go along for the ride and enjoy the nearly day-by-day description of Beatlemania at its height.
Over 300 pages, “Invasion!” is being offered in two formats - a very limited, hardcover, autographed edition, and - something new! - as a Kindle book, through Amazon. The hardcover will be shipped by priority mail in a padded envelope.
