The music comes with a 60-page hardbound book that’s filled with rare and unseen photos from the era, an extended essay based on new interviews with Coverdale, plus a booklet of the album’s lyrics, handwritten by Coverdale.

The DVD from WHITESNAKE “1987”: SUPER DELUXE EDITION includes music videos for the four singles, all of which have been carefully restored and remixed in 5.1 Surround Sound for the first time ever. I hope this beats the tar out of the lousy 20th anniversary edition which did not include the '88 version of "Give Me All Your Love" (the only track that lineup actually recorded), the '87 single version and mix of "Here I Go Again" and did not include the pro-shot video of Seattle '87 songs but did include useless current live versions.

That release was truly lame.

I wish Coverdale and Sykes would bury that hatchet. Sykes is the reason this album did so well. Slip of the Tongue was an abomination. I heard some of Sykes solo stuff and it's almost Whitesnakish at times.

Sykes did a pretty damn good version of "Still of the Night" when Blue Murder toured.

Blue Murder, IMO should have been a big deal. Surprised they weren't.

That first album was the logical follow up to the 1987 Whitesnake album.

I thought the only thing different about "Give Me All Your Love" was some overdubbed guitar work by Vivian Campbell. I always understood the backing tracks were the same as the album version.

Blue Murder's 2nd disc, Nothin' but Trouble, was very good. In fact, I like it a bit better than their debut.

That's actually a Sykes solo album under the band name.

Blue Murder were really good but destroyed by egos.

Some details about this from Musictap.

Looks like the coolest stuff will only be in the giant box which I will not buy.

Seems like what I asked about is being included.

I fixed typos and mistakes in this:

The Super Deluxe Box will provide the original album, a CD of unreleased live tracks that had Vandenberg, Campbell, Sarzo and Aldridge at the helm, alongside David Coverdale.

The performance tracks were recorded from the band’s 1987-1988 support tour.

Another CD adds in eleven unreleased demo and rehearsal recordings that include early versions of songs from the album.

The final CD provides newly remixed versions of the four previously mentioned hit singles along with rare radio mixes and songs from 87 Versions, an exclusive EP issued in Japan.

The DVD features the four singles videos, restored and remixed in 5.1 Surround. There is a 30-minute documentary of the making of Whitesnake. Plus, there is a newly filmed video of “Here I Go Again”, and unreleased live footage from the 1987-1988 tour.

The Book inside the Box will be a 60-page hardbound book with photos, essay, song lyrics, and more.

I might be in, depending on what type of bonus studio material is included. This is a great album but I still rate the original UK mix of Slide It In as the best Whitesnake release.

I saw them on tour for this album and it was one of the worst shows I ever saw in my life. They were the opening act and only had 45 minutes and for some reason there was a guitar solo and drum solo which were both really long. If I remember right they only did five songs and that was pretty much the end for me when it came to guitar solos and drum solos. I was so fired up to see Adrian Vandenberg as I was a big fan of the Vandenberg albums and he was just terrible. Coverdale was just terrible. Tommy Aldridge was damn good (although I hate drum solos!), rest of the band was complete poop that night.

For me, sound quality would be paramount to any purchasing decision. And as these days most hard rock is brickwalled.........

Whitesnake will always be a fantastic Blues Rock band for me from 1978-83.

After that it was OK, but a different beast and one I thought wasn't even close to the greatness of those early albums like Ready n' Willing and Come An' Get It.

Your memory is close to correct from that tour when they were openers for Motley Crue (but quickly graduated to headliners).

Here's their set list as openers:

Bad Boys / Children of the Night
Slide It In
Here I Go Again
Love Ain't No Stranger

Guitar Solo
(A. Vandenberg/ V. Campbell)

Crying in the Rain

(Incl. Drum Solo)

Still of the Night

Inspired by the UK track listing, the song order runs as follows on my ipod:

1. Still of the Night
2. Bad Boys
3. Give Me All Your Love
4. Looking For Love
5. Crying in the Rain
6. Is This Love
7. Straight For the Heart
8. Don't Turn Away
9. Children of the Night
10. Here I Go Again
11. You're Gonna Break My Heart Again
12. Need Your Love So Bad (Remix)
13. Here I Go Again (New Version)
14. Standing in the Shadows (Remix)

That looks right. Just reading that makes it look like seven songs but it seems Children of the Night was just about 30 seconds tacked onto the end of Bad Boys (I think Bad Boys was done in it's entirety), and Crying in the Rain just got through the first chorus and then went into the drum solo. Maybe I'm wrong about that, I was pretty soured on the entire show so maybe I remember it being worse than what it was. Looks like there will be live material from their time as a support act on the box set so I guess I will find out if the shortened versions were truncated as much as I remember.

BTW, Motley Crue were also ridiculously bad that night.

Yes, those Whitesnake songs are truncated versions that you mentioned.

I believe you there about the Crue.

I am not much of a Motley Crue fan and I think they are an atrocious live band musically and vocally.

I did see them in '83 open for Ozzy and at that point the drugs hadn't taken over and they were pretty good.

By 1985 it was over, though I do respect Mick mars to a degree as a guitarist and what he had to go through physically.

I'm with you Pete...nothing beat the early Whitesnake albums. The guitar combo of Mickey Moody and Bernie Marsden with Neil Murray on bass was fantastic. Add in Jon Lord and Ian Paice...incredible.

Mark is spot on here. I have some John Sykes solo stuff and it is excellent. Shame those guys couldn't continue to work together.

I thought the running order on disc one was odd as it doesn't follow the original UK or USA track listing. I had no idea that this arrangement had already been done for the 20th anniversary edition as I had no interest in that one and hadn't even looked at the track listing. Have to assume that Coverdale considers this the best way to combine the two different releases and now this is the definitive running order. Strange to see Bay Boys out of the #2 spot. Also think having Is This Love, Here I Go Again and Looking for Love all within a 4 song span might mellow out the middle of this a bit too much.

Seems like a proto-typical standard deluxe...CD of album tracks...CD of live tracks...CD of demo tracks (assuming that's what "evolutions" means)...CD of remixes...DVD of album promo videos plus some bonus stuff.

I'll likely get this.

All of the other configurations were released today, but the Super Deluxe box set has been postponed until October 27th. The USA pre-order price for it has also dropped by $5, down to $44.79:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074VJDGG5/?tag=imwan-20

And we have a couple more audio samples -- the 87 Evolutions version of "Is This Love" and the Radio Mix of "Here I Go Again":
