The big question for me: Will it include "Heart Like a Wheel"?

I'm for that, but technically there were no "hit singles" from ROCK LOVE, while "Heart Like a Wheel" was a true chart hit, yet almost never makes the cut.
It didn't even make the box set! Steve never plays it live either, so maybe he just hates it. One of my faves though.

MTV played the video for "Heart Like a Wheel" a lot in the heady days of 1981 and 1982. :ohyes:

Seems to me we've got enough Miller comps & boxes. I'm mostly a fan of the first 2 or 3 & the live recordings from the Fly Like An Eagle period.

"Circle Of Love" was a hit too.

That cheesy vid for "Heart Like A Wheel" was played to death by MTV as Kym said and I have several original airings of that as well as the creepy carnival video of "Livin' In The U.S.A." (these bizarre videos at a carnival were also done for "Paint It, Black" by the Stones and "Fire" from Jimi Hendrix Experience.

Anyone remember those?

Oh yes, definitely. They were like the precursors to the plot-driven karaoke videos you'd see in karaoke bars in the '90s.

Yes!

And damn, were they weird, especially "Paint It, Black."

I could be thinking of something else entirely, but back in the 80's I remember a TV special about roller coasters with several videos featuring the same clown character. At least some of it was filmed at Six Flags Over Georgia, which I recognized from several visits. Around the middle of the show they had a brief bit about the history of roller coasters, using Steely Dan's version of "East St. Louis Toodle-oo" as the music. I saw this thing a couple of times but now I can't even begin to tell you what other songs were used.

I picked these up when they first came out - they're still available at suppliers (2-3 day time frame).

Currently CD Japan shows them at $24.23 apiece. Not bad since these are SHM CD mini-sleeves.
HOWEVER, CD Japans shipping charges seem to have gotten steep last few orders so might be wise to wait until you have a group order...

As for the sound they sound great to me - my ears may seem to be under-whelming to some here,
however as a LOUD guitar player for the last 53 years I can tell you I have no tinitus issues,
And when my hearing was tested last year it was deemed above average for a 65 year old... :D

As for my equipment, I'm all McIntosh and Audio Alchemy including DA converters...

Just sayin' - as always, you're mileage may vary... :food2: .

Ultimate Hits will actually be the first release under Miller's new contract with Capitol/Universal. Hold off on those Japanese reissues because it sounds like all of the albums are going to be redone:

Quote:
Capitol Announces Major Pact With Blues-Rock Titan Steve Miller

Click for full size

Capitol Records has announced a new pact with one of the most successful, acclaimed frontmen and guitarists in rock history. Steve Miller will bring his entire catalogue of recorded music back to the label where he spent a large part of his recording career, starting with the Steve Miller Band's 1968 debut album Children of the Future.

The new deal gives Capitol/UMe access to Miller's entire private vault and warehouse, featuring not only music but footage, photos, memorabilia, artwork, handwritten notes, journals and more. The recorded catalogue includes his 18 studio albums, boxed sets, live recordings and numerous compilation albums. Among these is the spectacularly successful 1978 retrospective Greatest Hits 1974-1978, which in March 2017 was certified 14 times platinum in the US alone.

The new pact calls for UMe to release Miller's catalogue projects, while new material will be via Capitol. Miller is now directing the concept and curation for his Steve Miller Band catalogue releases, with details of the first project to be announced soon.

Steeped in a blues and jazz upbringing, the Milwaukee-born Miller would play with Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf and others as an emerging guitarist in Chicago. He became a key figure in the burgeoning San Francisco rock scene of the mid-1960s that led to the formation of the SMB and their first releases.

After a widely-admired series of chart albums, Miller and the band broke through to a top 40 audience with 1973's No. 1 hit 'The Joker,' which helped the album of the same name go platinum. It began a remarkable sequence of huge-selling releases including Fly Like An Eagle, Book of Dreams and Abracadabra, the title track of which was another US chart-topper, as was 'Rock'n Me.'

Miller and his band, whose most recent album was 2011's Let Your Hair Down, continue to tour extensively, and are currently on a major North American itinerary with Peter Frampton. Now living in New York, he's on the Board of Jazz at Lincoln Centre and on the Board for the Metropolitan Museum’s Musical Instruments collection.

Question is will they be redone better or worse?

I've probably stated this too often:

My frustration is that equipment wise the engineers have the ability to absolutely destroy in comparison any cd made before around 1995 by comparison; sadly they often use that same equipment to destroy the music instead.

I'm not a big fan, but I might be interested in the whole catalog.

Can't say I'm clamoring for a remaster of Italian X-Rays, Recall The Beginning...A Journey from Eden or Bingo! though.

Please, at least let the new versions of the albums be compiled before you start hating on them!

I am very much looking forward to this. All in all Capitol does good work. And having access to Steve Miller's personal archive. WOW!

I'm hoping that a lot of unreleased music will finally be out there.
