Hopefully, the sound quality of the live in studio stuff is better than the numerous bootlegs I've purchased in the past.

The AF version of Montrose is very good but a Paper Money remaster is great news. Rhino remastered Paper Money tracks for their best of years ago, hopefully this sounds as good as the compilation.

The 4 Rock Candy remasters are plenty good.

Both of these radio shows have been heavily bootlegged through the years, so not much new here.

As a Montrose fanatic, will I get them?

Yeah.

I was thinking of getting the RC remasters, but I'll get these instead (extra stuff).

Strangely, as big of a Hagar fan that I am, I never have heard these two in their entirety. Are they that good? Or average? Was Hagar leaving Montrose a bad thing for Ronnie?

The debut album is possibly the greatest Hard Rock album ever made.

I stand by that statement.

Paper Money could never equal it and by that point, Ronnie was trying to dominate too much and didn't want to be a Hard Rock band anymore.

It's still a good album but a disappointment.

Both of the other albums, Warner Bros. Presents Montrose and Jump On It are good albums as well, but inconsistent.

Musically It was bad for both IMO, neither did anything better after they parted ways. Although I did enjoy the Capitol years Hagar and some of Montrose solo albums.

I sort of agree.

The debut Montrose is a masterpiece, but Ronnie did 3 excellent Gamma albums and Sammy had some very solid albums for both Capitol and Geffen and did a killer album with HSAS and five #1 albums with Van Halen and also had Chickenfoot.

But yes, Ronnie and Sammy parting ways so soon was not good for either at the time.

Ronnie was a very tortured soul and difficult to get along with musically.

But he remains one of my favorite guitar players and I was lucky enough to spend time talking to his wife to include him in my upcoming second book and she was very, very sweet and very proud of his career and making sure his legacy endures.

These remasters and the Rock Candy ones for both Montrose and Gamma (hell, the label is NAMED after a Montrose song) are a very good thing.

Always enjoyed the version of Good Rockin' Tonight off the 1st album. Probably my favorite Montrose band & Sammy Hagar track of all time.

I remember buying "Montrose" a few months after it was released. Being around 15 at the time, I was blown away with this album. Granted, I only had a few years of listening and buying music, but to this day I still rank this album as my favorite rock record. Every song is killer.

Love that first Montrose album! I can't say that I remember ever hearing Paper Money in its entirety, but I'll rectify that through the glory of the interwebs tomorrow.

Oddly, I just pulled out Standing Hampton (no pun intended) and listened driving to and from work yesterday. I still love that album and Can't Get Loose is probably my favorite Sammy Hagar song. Back when it was released, I was a firm synth hater but that song hits me just right.
