IP and i seem to go round and round about this.

simple one, yes or no answer.

you are given free tickets to see the band journey that exists today, and you are told in advance that they would only play songs that they have recorded since steve perry left, nor would they play any songs from the first 3 albums.

would you go?

Heck yeah! They are a 'tight' band no matter what they play.

Neal Schon! That's all I need. I could sit for hours listening to him play.

I went with No, but probably would turn the stereo up if Journey with Steve Perry were playing nothing but their greatest hits in the parking lot across from my apartment for free, so I may not be objective about this :-)

The only Journey I own is a CD of their greatest hits that I picked up cheap at a church fund-raiser. I really don't know anything beyond the hits. But if I were given free tickets, I would go, even knowing that they wouldn't play any material I am familiar with. I am always open to hearing a professional band live.

I'm there, but no band in their right mind would play all new material.

In fairness, if you limit almost ANY legacy band to these kinds of discography restrictions, you'd probably find a majority "No" vote... although I'd take a free ticket to see Neal Schon in a heartbeat.

But hey, the original Crusades lasted two hundred years, so why not carry on?

Y'know, if you think about it, an actual Journey-Perry reunion is actually more plausible than this imaginary scenario.

I guess if Neal Schon is on board, that might be OK, but at some point you would think they should change their name from Journey to Are We There Yet — or maybe I Think It Was Back There.

IP, IP, IP,

i am NOT arguing with you, i swear.

and i agree with your spin 100%, but that is not what the question asks.

your absolutely correct that no band in their right mind would ever play all new material at any concert, but i said material since stevve perry has left........this equates to 4 full albums and 1 EP...which encompasses 54 total songs to choose from and began in 2001 - 16 years ago.

i know of no band that ever played 54 songs in one concert, so the material is there to do a normal show of say 20 - even 30 songs. (which is being very generous)

The Ramones might have managed this once or twice. :)

I would go because the current version of Journey is damn good live, even with new material. I swear, the recent re-release of their Manila DVD on Blu Ray is fantastic.

Dream Theater did with their new double disc. Of course, they're a cult band. I own all their stuff and love their music, but that latest double disc was a total failure for me. And to play it all live like they did?

The Pistols were lucky to make it through 10 songs in a show. :)

And for the record, Speaking of NIN, David Bowie came really close to this type of tour in 1995, I think Man who sold the moon and Scary Monsters were his only old songs played

Yes, and he was booed by the Hot Topic kids at most shows.

The show I was at was not pretty.

Bowie just kept playing loads of Outside material and even though that had a nine inch nails-type sound, he sounded like an old man cashing in on a trend and it was not what anyone wanted to hear.

I liked some of that album but even I didn't want to hear just those songs.

And I 100% believe you meant"The Man Who Sold The World."

No.

I've heard a post Perry live recording, & saw them perform on R&RHOF broadcast. Mediocre.

IMO, they were already going downhill on the last Perry live cd "Greatest Hits Live"

As much as I think Schon at one time was an amazing guitarist & Perry an amazing vocalist; other than Captured I consider them a singles band. I also never liked Perry solo.

IMO, since Frontiers, both the songwriting & performing (studio & live) have been on a huge downward spiral.

I could easily live with owning only Captured & the original Greatest Hits; though I do own more than that.
