Got an email this morning: Quote: WE NOTICED THAT YOU HAVE BEEN USING PHOTOBUCKET FOR 3RD PARTY HOSTING* *What is 3rd Party Hosting? Photobucket defines 3rd party hosting as the action of embedding an image or photo onto another website. For example, using the <img> tag to embed or display a JPEG image from your Photobucket account on another website such as a forum, Etsy, eBay auction listings, a blog, etc. is definitively 3rd party hosting. Our Terms of Service does not allow 3rd party hosting with your current account level. Going forward, this service will not be free, each account holder has to upgrade to a paid account that will cost $400/year. I guess all my record cover photos will start disappearing from IMWAN now, and I'll have to find another service to do the job, ugh...

Guys, please switch to http://www.imgur.com for all your image uploads. It's the easiest and most reliable image repository, and works best at IMWAN. Other places just have too many issues for consistent forum posting, this Photobucket mess being the latest one.

I switched several years ago and never looked back. So simple and Photobucket was becoming a huge pain the ass even before all this with ads and site interface.

I've been seeing this at a couple of the guitar boards I'm on. The reaction has been similar to Larry's, but much less polite. $400/year? I'm hosting my own for less than a quarter of that, and that includes web pages, e-mail and stuff I don't even use.
I saw a blurb somewhere that the biggest thing Photobucket will gain from this is the status of being one of the biggest examples of how not to transform into a pay service.

imgur is the way to go. There is even a Chrome (and Firefox) extension so you don't have to hassle beyond a couple of right mouse clicks to get an image there and get the link to share it.

Imgur's founder Alan Schaaf pronounces it "image-urr", so that's what I go with.
