I am a bit more familiar with Marvel -- Luke Cage, Deathlok, Iron Fist, She-Hulk, Ghost Rider, etc.

But other than Kirby's creations and Grell's Warlord, I'm drawing a blank for DC.

Firestorm created by Gerry Conway and Al Milgrom in 1978. Share the Changing Man created by Ditko in 1977. Man-Bat created by Frank Robbins, Neal Adams and Julius Schwartz in 1970.

I remember being happy that I was able to buy new number 1s.
Titles like Black Lightning, Freedom Fighters, Rima the Jungle Girl, Ragman, Secret Society of Super Villians,
Shade the Changing Man, Stalker, New Gods, First Issue Special, Demon, Mister Miracle, Sandman, Kamandi,
Omac, the Dollar Comics, SHAZAM, Isis, even Super Friends. Then there was Plop, Warlord, Tor, Klaw,
Justice Imc, The Shadow, Kong, Beowulf. So many more, I'm sure I've forgotten.

I LOVE Shade the Changing Man. It's a damn shame this run didn't continue, it was his best stuff since Dr. Strange.

DC expanded by publishing 57 new titles called the DC Explosion in the 70s. So, tons of characters were created but the DC Implosion came and they almost all got cancelled.

Good times. Perhaps my most favorite time to have been buying comics.

Another great thing about buying comics in the 70's is that you could walk into a used bookstore and buy old 60's comics for a dime to a quarter each. The dc comics we're often things like Metal Men or Metamorpho while the thicker issues we're reprint compilations of Bats, Supes ect(with some golden age stuff filling up the issue) . The Marvel stuff was almost always reprint compilations like Marvel Tales. They really looked and smelled different ....the Marvel ones looked like works of art. It's funny how ancient they seemed to me :)

Are you not a fan of the Goodwin/Simonson Manhunter?

If I got a hold of a comic book that was, say, more than 6 years old, it seemed like some ancient relic from a bygone era. A window into the past.

If we got one that was about 14 or 15 years old, it was like it came from WWII or something. Ancient.

Now I realize how quickly time passes, and how close we were to the historical events that perceived as deep in the past. The adults of those time were carrying around memories of Vietnam, JFK, and even the 50's like it was fairly recent.

I think of Burton Batman as easily remembered -- but we are approaching it's 30th anniversary. Thirty years prior to when I started heavy into comics was 1950!

He actually gave me a reading copy he's such a fan and ambassador for it. (And, in a shocking turn, Manhunter did turn out to be awesome).

It's real good. I think of it like the reverse of Man-Thing comics.
