Most played is hard; I'll list favs & least liked.

I'm also going to ignore CSNY & Buf Spring; or Deja Vu would be 1, 4 Way Street would be 2, & Woodstock would be 3!

4 favs (this is hard; i couldn't do 3!)

1. After The Goldrush
2. Harvest
3. Live Rust
4. Everyone Knows This Is Nowhere

4 least liked (this is also hard, I could easily do 9 + a couple of the later CSNY's):

1. A Letter Home
2. Arc
3 (Tie) Reactor & Trans

One thing you can say about NY: He's as much of a chameleon as Bowie.

Actually "Most Played" for me would be the hi-res version of Archives (other than his early pre Buf Spring groups)

He may be the artist in my personal top 10 with the most records I have little use for; but when he's on he's amazing and I applaud his artistic restlessness.

Least played (of the ones I own)
Landing on Water
Sleeps with Angels
Broken Arrow

Honorable mention
I probably have listened to Trans more than many others taking this poll

When Trans first came out, I used to play three or four songs from it on the radio. It's not really an album I revisit though. It belongs to about 1983 and should probably stay there.

:agree: though I'd go one further: Live Rust.

There's a couple good songs on Hawks & Doves (studio album after Rust), I Love Capt. Kennedy. There's also several that are pretty mediocre. After that it's hit & miss for me; though I like the majority of NY from Greendale - Peace Trail. There's 4 in that period I don't like, but it's a higher percentage of "Like" for me than Hawks - Are You Passionate. There's 7 I like & 8 I don't like (counting studio albums only) to varying degrees in that period.

I can't name the top three that I play because all or nearly all are in regular rotation here with the exceptions of the bottom four which would be "Life", "Landing On Water" and "Living With War", I especially despise the last one.

you listen to 'a letter home"??????

"living with war" almost made my list, even when the songs are live with CSN, they just are not very good. FWIW - the 'living with war - in the beginning' is a bit more tolerable to the ears that the released version. i appreciated the effort and the reason for it, but maybe a little more care and time into the songs........

Most played:

Neil Young
Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
Harvest

Can't get enough of these three. After The Goldrush is right there with them, but I probably play these three the most.

Least played:

Le Noise
Arc
Harvest Moon

I purged Trans, Everybody's Rockin', Landing On Water, and Life from my collection years ago, or they would be contenders for the second list. I put Harvest Moon on there because I know a lot of Neil fans adore it, but I've never liked it at all.

Yep. I love it. I love the sound of primitive 1920s recordings. This sounds just like that.

I prefer "the Beginning" version also, but I like (not love, like) both.

It's interesting; as I've experienced in the past many of us have different preferences on NY, which doesn't surprise me.

Since almost all the Neil I listen to these days is via homemade comps, I’m gonna go the Geff R. route and list my favorite and least favorite Neil albums. As both Renny and Geff said, I love all Neil albums from the beginning through Live Rust. After that it’s been mostly hit or miss with most of his albums, with the exception of Freedom and Harvest Moon, both of which I like a lot. Very interesting to read all the lists here. Being a Neil fan is not always easy………but looking back over his entire body of work, it is both extremely rewarding and, needless to say, frustrating!!!!

Favorites
After The Goldrush
Harvest
Live Rust
Rust Never Sleeps
Freedom
Harvest Moon

Least Favorite
A Letter Home
Arc
Re-ac-tor
Landing on Water
Life
Sleeps with Angels

I'm a bit surprised that only banzaibid & I mentioned Arc as least fav. It's very comparable to Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music.

Oh god no, I don't consider this as a commercial release. Funny story my mum brought Arc as she loves Neil Young, had no idea what was on it. Was struck by what she heard, is this CD faulty? It's all one song just noise!
