I've seen just about everything that David Lynch has done and I've come to expect that it takes time to understand his work, if ever. There are things that I still don't understand.
I've watched the first four episodes of the new "Twin Peaks" and this really has me confused. Am I missing something? Or is this just a total mess?
100% in agreement with you, and i love lynch also.
but this, so far, is just one big convoluted and incomprehensible mess. we are considering deleting it from the DVR is the next episode doesn't start to make some kind of sense, any kind of sense actually.

Twin Peaks isn't for everyone. Apparently one needs to rewatch Fire Walk With Me the Twin Peaks movie to really understand the world that Coop is stuck in which has allowed his doppelgänger to walk the Earth like a destructive force.
It will never really all make "sense" as we are in Lynch world and it's full of eater eggs and other clues that you have to really understand the entire TP's universe which is isn't easy for even the diehards (just see a Twin Peaks fan site on Facebook for example....much conjecture).
It's all fun to me and I'm glad it's back. I will have to replay episodes 1 and 2 before I even attempt to delve into episodes 3 and 4 (which are available right now on Showtime On Demand).

I agree with both of you. Lycn movies and this show seldome if ever make sense. I knew that beforehad. This though, is ridiiculous. Howevefr confusinf ir ia, all of is compleeing. I'll watcha few more episdoes and then decide whether or not it's been a waste of time.

I couldn't fkucngi agree more.
If it's that obtuse that you need to re-watch FWWM, I'll give it a miss.
Enough with the dancing midgets and the red velvet curtains.

I love it and I don't understand a thing. Or more, I just take what comes.
I saw Fire Walk With Me in the theater in 1991 and watched and re-watched the video for years before I finally saw the show in probably 1996 or so. I didn't even realize so much of the movie was incomprehensible to someone who hadn't seen the show. I just thought it was incomprehensible.

If your into Twin Peaks, your really into it. I've never seen so many posts on Facebook about this season for any other TV show. Just incredible but they all have the same problem, figuring it out. All Lynch movies are like this, you could write a thesis on many of his movies.
Usually a very non linear story really annoys me but since Lynch is such an auteur, it doesn't bother me.

It's weird, it's funny, it's disturbing, it's scary, it's baffling...and I'm along for the ride to the finish. It's my kind of odd. Two hours on screen speed right by.

One of tonight's musical numbers was by a duo who were the reincarnation of the young Everly Bros. The forthcoming soundtrack CD will be an immediate buy.

The show really hasn't been Twin Peaksy till that scene where Bobby Briggs shows up in the sheriffs office and sees a photo of Laura Palmer and breaks down and cries (plus that famous music). Very nice.
And how about Wally Brando played by Michael Cera?

I'm looking forward to the seventeen hour marathon of this. I'm already pondering what pot brownies I'll eat throughout.
I like how David Lynch isn't so much returning to Twin Peaks as he's encapsulating his entire body of work. And while it's weird, it's effective and entertaining. An hour of this flies by while watching an hour of American Gods feels like I'm doing homework.
I am kind of losing my patience with Dougie. If Coop isn't back by the end of next week, which will have been as many episodes as the first season of the original series, then I'm going to take to the internet and complain. Maybe.
Dale Cooper was one of the pleasures of Twin Peaks, seeing the world through his genius, eccentricity and enthusiasm. It'd be nice if we saw him again.

I noticed the last episode airs Sunday September 3, the day before Labor Day. Which means I won't have to take a vacation day to marathon the season while blackout high on sativa brownies.
