There aren't really any details about anything having to do with this, I think that if there's going to be such a release that any information about it won't come out until next year. We still have all of the Sgt. Pepper hype to get through.

I'm hoping they realize that the people likely to buy these things (like us) can handle two major reissues in the same calendar year. Get the stuff out there while we can still enjoy it.

Very exciting news. Should have been done many years ago. There are so many outtakes and alternative mixes plus the iconic artwork. I still have fond memories of looking through the pictures and poster of my mums original pressing of the white album (in mono) ! She also has an original pressing of Sgt. Pepper in mono.

I don't know what you guys were listening to, but the Capitol Albums box sets sounded awful! They were so 'bright' you could cut glass with them!
The new Capitol box set has all the mixes that were unique to the US, and does away with all the fake mono/stereo stuff, and the early "Dexter-ized" stuff.

Those WERE the Capitol mixes. What was foisted onto the public was little more than an iTunes playlist. Without those American mixes, good or bad, whatever you ore anyone else thinks about them, was fraudulent.

Is there any word on why the Beatles waited so long to do this? Previously, I might have assumed that McCartney wasn't interested in such reissues, but now I'm wondering whether George Martin was the primary roadblock all these years.

They were too busy putting out Beatle beach towels, bed-sheets, board games, pens, video toys, circus side-show soundtracks and other great merchandise that fans of their music were really interested in.

I grew up listening to the Capitol albums, but my point is, they weren't ACTUAL mixes. They were, in many instances, either fake stereo created from the British mono mixes, or mono folddowns of the British stereo mixes, and then layered over with extra reverb. There were a handful of mono & stereo mixes done at Abbey Road specifically targeted at the American audience, and those were included in the box set. I honestly don't see what the problem is. If I wanted (or needed) to, I could very easily create my own versions of those exact same "mixes" on my computer.
And, to be fair, they cut all of the fake mixes off of the UK remasters as well.

I distinctly recall George Martin in an interview talking about 'scraping the bottom of the barrel' if there were more archival releases after The Anthology project.

Fake mixes or not, they were the ones used on the American albums. Why change history? And many people prefer those mixes. They prefer the American albums as originally heard to the British albums.
I'm not a big fan of the American albums. Once I discovered the British albums and especially the mono mixes, I almost never listened again to the American albums. Had they correctly done this box set, I would have bought it though.

Sometime shortly after the release of Anthology 3, Billboard had an interview with Capitol's president or some other high-up. In the interview, he stated that the Anthology project was not the end, but the beginning. That came to mostly nothing.
I'm hoping that they're back on track with the Sgt. Pepper release. I'm still cautiously optimistic about it.
