Yeah, I had this on vinyl and liked it for the most part. Like Pete said, the mix was muddy, but not unbearable. Mr. Scary was a highlight for me on this release. Walk Away was actually a good song (the album studio track).

I always wondered if "Walk Away" was about the end of the band at that time.
"Mr. Scary" live was amazing.

Dokken = 100% hair metal.
Entire "I hate hair metal but I like this band so they can't be hair metal" mentality is ridiculous. I will never understand how people can get so hung up on labels?!
Back For the Attack had one bonus cut worth having...the song "Back For the Attack" which wasn't on the original album (was the B-side on the Dream Warriors 12").

Sorry to have a formed opinion.
What the hell does a complex instrumental like "Mr. Scary" have to do with Poison or Warrant which is what Hair Metal is???
You can have your opinions as well, but don't go insulting mine, which you really did.

Pre-ordered. I liked how the RC remasters of the first 4 discs sound.
Did those have any bonus cuts?
I own no Dokken on CD, but I always like the band because of George Lynch, the melodic style and the hooks.
They were a very good band despite the Hair metal look.
I never considered them Hair Metal (which I despise) at all.
The debut disc (Breaking The Chains) has Paris Is Burning (Live), but the original vinyl had it also.
Tooth And Nail has Just Got Lucky (Single Edit) and Alone Again (Live In Japan). The live one is from the upcoming live remaster. I recognized it from that release.
Under Lock And Key has no extras.
Back For The Attack has the title track as an extra track. Nothing to write home about. It's an okay song.
Overall, the remasters sound really killer. And I mean, really good sound. In fact, the sound is better than the Rhino Definitive Rock Collection 'best of' from 2006. Back For The Attack is stellar and a very well recorded album. It's my fave of the 4.

Thanks Mark. I only have the Rhino set so I will go for the 'Back For The Attack' to get reacquainted with this band.

I did always find this album very muddy sounding, so I hope they cleaned up the mix.
Did you get this, Pete? I got mine yesterday. It's a nice looking package. The bad? It still sounds muddy, but not as bad as the original release. The drums and bass are more prominent.
I think the result is that this wasn't a good recording (the taping) to begin with. The other RC Dokken releases sound spectacular.
I'll take it as it is because it's the full album.

No, Mark.
I actually own no Dokken, but I did like them, just not enough to upgrade to CD.
I also missed that Tricky Kid was so clever in telling me they were Hair Metal, which "Mr. Scary" is of course as most guitar driven instrumentals are.
I really appreciate the musical lessons on here I learn from hipsters.

But is "Mr. Scary" -- a "guitar driven instrumental" -- truly representative of the band, or was it an exception?
For ease of use, let's examine "peak Dokken", which would arguably be 1983-1988 and includes their most commercially successful albums. Discounting the redundancy of the 1988 live album, that means we're talking about the first four studio albums.
Vocal songs: 42 Instrumental songs: 1
I'm a fan. I own all of these albums and then some. There's no doubt that the band was evolving into a heavier sound on BFTA -- you don't have to go any further than the first track, "Kiss Of Death" -- but even that record featured the pop-rock "Burning Like A Flame" as its lead single, which was certainly more in line with their previous releases.
No, Dokken isn't Poison or Warrant, but they clearly share some genetic material.
