Description
Steven Wilson will release To The Bone his expansive, brilliant fifth album, via Caroline International August 18th. It is the follow up to 2015's Hand. Cannot. Erase. (one of Rolling Stone's best albums of 2015). A gloriously dynamic modernist pop record as imagined by the UK's biggest underground artist, To The Bone is Steven Wilson's hat-tip to the hugely ambitious progressive pop records of his youth (think Peter Gabriel's So, Talk Talk's Colour of Spring, Tears for Fears' Seeds of Love).

Tracklist
1. To The Bone
2. Nowhere Now
3. Pariah (feat. Ninet Tayeb)
4. The Same Asylum As Before
5. Refuge
6. Permanating
7. Blank Tapes (feat. Ninet Tayeb)
8. People Who Eat Darkness
9. Song Of I (feat. Sophie Hunger)
10. Detonation
11. Song Of Unborn

Dave Kilminster was great on the recent tour. Don't mind seeing Wilson move different people into and out of the band as I trust his judgment. Wasn't that pretty much the whole point of his solo career? Will definitely be looking forward to hearing the next album, the last two were both spectacular and exceeded the really high expectations.

I've always loved his guitar playing with Porcupine Tree so no problem there and yes Dave Kilminister is awesome!
Very exciting news we get more Steve Wilson, I love the guy! :heart:

This has just been released for those that care, not the new album but some electronic work that Steven has done for film and tv in the UK.
Rare stuff.
For the hard core fan only. It is limited. With shipping it comes to just under $10. :thumbsup:

While you're waiting for the new SW album (lots of news on that very soon), finally there is a regular CD edition of Steven Wilson "Unreleased Electronic Music". This was previously only available in handmade and highly limited CDR editions, and a vinyl version on ToneFloat. The album is a 65 minute, 11 track collection of various electronic music projects started in several different styles (IDM, ambient-techno, trip-hop...etc..) between 1990-2003. Some of the music was also created for UK television commercials.

This new edition comes in a 6 panel digipack with reproductions of some of the unique Lasse Hoile Polaroid photos that were included with the very first handmade edition, and includes a booklet with newly written sleeve and track notes. The release is exclusive to my own Headphone Dust mail order store, and will begin shipping from 1st April, but you can order now for a special pre-order price of only £7. We are also making another Headphone Dust exclusive CD, Porcupine Tree "Yellow Hedgerow Dreamscape", available at the same price for a limited time.

I couldn't find "Yellow Hedgerow Dreamscape" on the website. Any idea what/where this is?

While we await the next Steven Wilson opus, enjoy one of the great guitar solos from the song Regret #9 by Guthrie Govan.

I have personally met all the people in this video at one time or another, met Nick Beggs (bass) last month on the cruise.

Press release:

Quote:
Prog Rock Icon And Ex-Porcupine Tree Frontman Steven Wilson Signs To Caroline International

Steven Wilson, whose work as a solo artist and with his former band, Porcupine Tree, breathed new life into prog rock at the turn of the millennium, has announced he’s signed a worldwide record deal with Caroline International, joining a roster that includes Peter Gabriel, Iggy Pop and Underworld.

Wilson’s illustrious career began as the founder, lead guitarist, singer and songwriter of the two-time Grammy nominated Porcupine Tree, the hugely adored and completely autonomous group spent that two decades seemingly operating outside the music industry before their dissolution in 2010. Outside of Porcupine Tree, Wilson has picked up two more nominations, as both a solo artist and as part of collaborative act Storm Corrosion. Off the back of his fourth solo album, 2015’s critically acclaimed Hand. Cannot. Erase., he received three awards at the London Progressive Music Awards, where he was fittingly crowned “the king of prog rock”. He is also renowned for his work as a mix engineer, remixing classic works by Tears For Fears, Roxy Music and Simple Minds in the last few years alone.

Speaking about the deal, Wilson said, “I’m absolutely delighted to be entering into partnership with Michael Roe and his team at Caroline for my next album. Though Caroline exist within the Universal Music Group, their flexible label services model allows me to remain creatively independent, while at the same time providing the “muscle” that being with a major organisation brings. This makes it a perfect home for me, and I’m happy to now be labelmates with some of the most respected musicians in the industry.”

The feeling is mutual. Michael Roe, joint Managing Director of Caroline International, said, “I’ve been a fan of Steven’s recorded and production work for many years. He’s an incredible talent with a big and dedicated fanbase, but someone who has not received the wider recognition I think he deserves. I’m thrilled he’s chosen Caroline as a home.”

Steven Wilson’s fifth solo album will be released later this year.

With the press release mentioning his remix work for Roxy Music, I wonder if any of that will ever be released beyond the "Ladytron" Record Store Day 2015 single? His remixes were supposed to be part of a deluxe reissue of their first album, but after some talk of it around the time of the complete Roxy albums box set, nothing ever came of it.

How is the music? I usually don't like "Electronic" or Ambient music.

The title of the new album is "To the Bone." August 18 release date.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A gloriously dynamic Modernist Pop record, To The Bone is Steven Wilson's fifth official solo album.

Fusing futurist rock and spectral electronics with elegant atmospheres and wild guitars, To The Bone references the hugely ambitious Progressive Pop records that inspired Wilson in his teens (Peter Gabriel's So, Talk Talk's Colour of Spring, Tears for Fears Seeds of Love etc).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Not sure what to think of this, as generally I am not a fan of this sort of pop music. Although the title track of the last album fit this description, and I thought that was a pretty good listen.

I went to order the deluxe edition. Unfortunately as of now they are saying this will only be sold through Steven Wilson's official store at Universal Music, and not through other vendors (Burning Shed). The box itself is priced at a fairly reasonable $65, but Universal seems to think tacking on a shipping charge of $34.38 is not unreasonable.

Went to Wilson's facebook page and there is all sorts of blowback going on.
Deluxe box set shipping rates to the following countries:
Greece = 47 euros
Norway = 35.71 euros
Italy = 44.90 euros
Chile = 95 USD

It's a 120 page hardback book with a few optical discs and 1 vinyl 7". While there is no question that it will be heavy, it's not like it contains 3 12" 180 gram vinyl LPs. While I want the deluxe I am passing on the principle of it...$35 shipping for this is totally unreasonable.

Despite the very high delivery charge ($34) to the US, hopefully it's comes well packaged and on time (in August for my birthday).
