This is great news for those of us who don't do prime!

Amazon won't accept the link to the announcement with the Imwan Tag.

To see it, go to Amazon, then Help/Shipping & Delivery/Shipping Options/Order with Free Shipping by Amazon

Linda, if you can make the actual link work (the Imwan 20 tag is causing the problem as far as I can tell), please feel free:

Yep, click below. -- Linda

Free shipping on orders of $25 or more.

well, looks like the $49 and $35 shipping experiment failed.

i do believe that they were trying to push people toward 'prime". which, business wise, makes a lot of sense. but for the casual buyer, like me, it just wasn't worth it.

when they open up their music section to prime, i will be in.

They must have gotten some data back that Walmart is gaining some business with their free 2-day shipping for orders over $35 (no membership).

I thought music was prime eligible? If you're right, that's one more reason I won't go there.

I suspect this in response to the Evil Super D Empire's Deep Discount having success with a $25 shipping threshold; also Amazon appears to be creating their own delivery service; which has to lower costs (or it would be a bad business decision).

As a retailer, I can tell you with postal increases $25 free ship is a money loser.

Of course music is Prime eligible. Maybe he's talking about third party items. Those will never be opened to Prime or have a free shipping level.

I thought maybe he meant Amazon music, the streaming service. That's not likely to ever be included in Prime since they can charge almost as much for just that as they do for Prime.

I wouldn't think the music/video part of Amazon's business would be big enough to see Deep Discount (or all of Super D) as any threat where they would be motivated to move free shipping threshold's around. I would think it's a response to the Walmart/Target who seem to be starting to get real serious about their online retailing.

exactly.

if i had access to amazon';s music library as part of prime i would be in in a second.

i like movies, but i never buy them, and i don;t buy nearly as many CD's as i used to. the $25 shipping is perfect for me, in fact, i had $27 in my cart and i was waiting to order to get to $35, but i ordered it today because of the $25.

This is the first time I've seen variable shipping prices on 3rd party items

Third party sellers have been able to set their own shipping prices for physical media since March.

I get a lot of free streaming music with my account... there's a link for Amazon Music Unlimited and then there's one below it for Prime Music, which says I get 2 million songs with them.

So that's something.

I use Prime music quite a bit. The catalog is very stripped down compared to pay services, but I actually see stuff in there I've never seen before, particularly live stuff. There's an app for it and that's what I use. Stuff unfortunately disappears for no reason sometimes as well though. Ultimately, it's not something I'd ever pay for, but since we have Prime I use it and am happy with it for what it is.
