[2017-05-26] Foreigner "40: Hits From Forty Years 1977-2017" 2CD set including new tracks (Atlantic/Rhino)

Description
40 brings together the best songs from Foreigner’s nine studio albums, including all 16 of its Top 30 hits: "Feels Like The First Time," "Cold As Ice," "Waiting For A Girl Like You" and more. The collection features "Too Late" from the group’s 2008 retrospective No End In Sight and "The Flame Still Burns," the title track from a vinyl EP released just last year, making its debut on CD in this collection. All prior recordings have been remastered and the album features two new tracks recorded especially for this release, "Give My Life For Love" and a new version of "I Don’t Want To Live Without You."

The first disc covers Foreigner's first five albums: Foreigner (1977), Double Vision (1978), Head Games (1979), 4 (1981) and Agent Provocateur (1984). The 21 tracks include some the group's biggest hits ("Urgent" and "Feels Like The First Time") as well as deeper cuts like "Luanne" and "Women." The second disc features songs from Inside Information (1987), Unusual Heat (1991), Mr. Moonlight (1994) and Can't Slow Down (2009), and features "Rain," "When It Comes to Love" and "Heart Turns To Stone."

please compare and consider the 2cd set "Anthology: Jukebox Heroes" with its NON-live version of "break it up" and a few solo tracks/hits from band members.

I'm not familiar with all of the radio edits on this comp. I believe all of the other collections used the album versions. I would be curious to hear from someone in the know.

I have the Jukebox Heroes anthology and that's all one needs as far as comps go. Of course, I have all the remasters from a few years ago, too.

The best comp is No End in Sight from 2008 which features virtually every hit and album track.

Here, they bafflingly use radio edits of songs that were short enough already, and omit actual hits for some head-scratchers.

What should be here and could easily fit are these hit singles/album rock hits:

I'll stick with No End in Sight which is very close to perfect and Juxebox Heroes is a good one too though it adds non-Foreigner songs I had no interest in.

Now I'm wondering if I should get it for the radio edits, just out of curiosity. I have all the albums and the other comps, too.

Not sure if I have radio edits on anything - I'll have to check - or maybe some Foreigner experts here know if they've been issued before.

Side note: My wife and daughters love the relatively recent song, "In Pieces".

"In Pieces" is a fantastic song.

One of my favorite Foreigner songs actually.

It hit the edge of the Top 20 on the AC charts and we used to hear it on those stations quite a bit back in 2009.

Still, I will avoid this comp.

The radio edits are jarringly bad, especially "Hot Blooded."

I was in my local Walmart today and discovered that they're selling an exclusive edition of this release. I believe the price was $13.99. It adds a third disc of live tracks. Looked to be about 10 or 11 songs, mostly the hits you might expect on a release like this. I didn't notice any source info for the live tracks on the packaging.

I saw the CD set this morning in my local Walmart too. The third CD is "Live In '05" -- I wonder if this is the same live CD that has been making the rounds under different titles? If it was a more recent live show I would've picked it up.....

I wish we lived in a day where a band like Foreigner were putting out new music on a consistent basis. I enjoyed Can't Slow Down and can't believe that was all the way back in 2009! I hate to hear them relegated to a couple ballads on a compilation.

This was so shoddily put together it's baffling.

Three cuts from Mr. Moonlight and the two hits ("Until The End Of Time" and "Under The Gun") aren't among them!

I've seen this for as low as $9.99 but I have avoided it so far.
