Mr. Rogers invades this little kid's personal space, steals a game of Donkey Kong, and then tries to swipe some quarters from the collection guy.

Mr. Rogers is awesome.

Mr. Rogers. I don't think we'll see another like him ever again.

I agree. He was a class act.

And he liked sweaters.

With Mr. Rogers, every day was a red sweater day. I really enjoyed that interview on the Incredible Hulk set.

Mister Rogers was the Tops!
Don't be dissing him!
He was a really cool guy! When the whole world was against video games, he stepped in to show everybody they weren't "tools of the Devil"!
Fred was one of the best, nicest men to ever walk the Earth!

Of all the "kiddie" shows, his was the easiest to return to watch even as an adult.

Am I up too late, or was that Keith David as the arcade guy in that MISTER ROGERS spot up there? Where the kid was playing Donkey Kong?

I doubt it. But I wouldn't say that with 100% certainty.

Playing it again on a computer with better speakers it is him. He says his name is Keith David. Nice catch, Frank.

Good Lord! Despero just made off with those Donkey Kong quarters, and Mr. Rogers didn't lift a finger to stop him!

In the next scene, Mister Rogers and Keith David have a fight scene that lasts five minutes, even though it was supposed to be just 20 seconds in the script.

Earlier in the episode Mr. Rogers says he's there to kick ass and chew bubble gum. And he's all out of bubble gum!

Man that was surreal hearing Ferrigno's natural speaking voice coming out of the Hulk. I've heard him talk many times, but never while he was in make-up.

The funniest bits in there aren't the remixing, they're the bits that were funny in the first place. "Three Rodents with Defective Eyesight" -- that's good stuff.

Mr. Rogers can seem creepy to older kids, teenagers and adults, because we're used to seeing things through the filter of adulthood. We value adulthood; we're think we're eager to leave childhood behind.

Fred understood that young children's minds are still building a picture of the world, and that's what he spoke to. He didn't care that it made him look goofy in an adult's eyes. He cared that there should be at least one person on television who actually gave a shit about the impact the idiot box had on kid's souls. He crafted a show that spoke quietly and honestly with them. He wanted to provide a sort of television vaccine against the constant barrage of aggression and advertising.

When adults who only knew Fred from TV would meet him in person, and suddenly realize that "Mister Rogers" wasn't a condescending act, but a true reflection of Fred's belief that the world would be a better place if we all respected the children -- the current ones, and the children we all used to be -- it was a powerful experience. When he died, the sheer volume of love and remembrances that poured into WQED from all around the world was unbelievable. It was overwhelming.

Note how the chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Communications is a typical snotty cynical politician before Fred begins, and then his demeanor changes after listening for a few minutes.

Mr. Rogers was awesome. I agree with everything Stephen said. He also had a keen sense of humor and reportedly found all the parodies and spoofs of him very funny.
