Thirty years after Crowded House’s self-titled debut album topped the charts in their homeland of Australia, establishing the band as a global force whose insightful songwriting and pop nous attracted fans from all over the world, the group celebrate their career with long-awaited deluxe editions of all six of their albums (plus the 1999 rarities and outtakes collection, Afterglow). Due for release on 4 November, each album, from 1986’s Crowded House through to 2010’s Intriguer, will be reissued as deluxe 2CD editions.
Rightly proud of the band’s legacy, songwriter Neil Finn notes that each album is “accompanied by a rich trove of rarities, including writing demos and other unreleased musical curiosities”. Describing the process of compiling these exhaustive reissues as “a labour of love” many years in the making, Finn revealed: “our mission all along was making a superlative quality, definitive document of Crowded House’s unique history for all the fans who have given us their affection over the years”.
In an interview with Australia’s 60 Minutes, Finn and bassist Nick Seymour went further into the band’s unique history:
Featuring home demos of Crowded House classics such as ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over’ and ‘Weather With You’, along with rare B-sides, alternate recordings and brand new artwork, these lovingly compiled reissues are a fitting celebration of the three-decade career of one of the world’s most beloved bands.

Finally! Will have to examine the tracklists in more detail, but at first blush they're filled with unreleased material and seem to pick up most if not all of the band's b-sides...

i'm MOSTLY happy about this remastering/reissuing campaign. the 1 or 2cd "very, very best..." was/were brickwalled - ouch! i do, however, wish they'd divided-up the "afterglow" songs and presented them with the corresponding collection/recording sessions.

the 1997 EMI 2cd deluxe edition of "Woodface" contains 5 “original demo” tracks – simply acoustic versions, in my opinion: weather with you, four seasons in one day, it’s only natural, chocolate cake, and how will you go. i’ll keep buy this new set and keep the aforementioned, but it’s a shame they’re not included in this new campaign.

Were the 1 CD/2 CD "Very, Very Best Of" editions remastered by Don "Brickwall" Bartley? Unfortunately, Don Bartley has been given the mastering credits for these Crowded House remasters. Be scared! While I am one to admit that I like my remasters a bit on the loud side (loud, that is, not harsh/piercing/distorted), he has a record of cranking his remasters far too loud, so much that they distort. His Cold Chisel 2011 remasters were among the loudest, harshest remasters that my ears have ever come across. Unfortunately, they sounded really bad because they suffered from distortion and crackling. His 1999 Cold Chisel remasters were already loud, but they didn't have the distortion. Apparently, he thought that he had to go even louder! I hope that I'm wrong about his Crowded House remasters!

Bump: The pre-order prices for most of the Deluxe Editions have now been reduced to £14.99 in the UK. (See links in the first post.) I would have assumed these would come out domestically as well, but so far they're only listed as imports at Amazon USA.

Interesting -- the Time On Earth 2CD Deluxe Edition has been designated an "Amazon Exclusive Import", and is available from Amazon USA specially priced at $21.98:
The rest of the titles in this series have not followed suit, at least not yet. Right now Time On Earth is worth picking up by itself because it's $10 less than each of the others.

I'll need deluxe versions of Crowded House and Temple Of Low Men. Everything from Woodface forward was good, too, but none of it grabbed me like those first two albums.
