Both movies try to do such totally different things that it's a little like saying 'Citizen Kane or Oliver!' Both are brilliant in their own ways. But I personally preferred the roller coaster that was Aliens. And Sigourney's tits were only a medium-sized factor in my choice...

Comparing two movies isn't really all that crazy -- especially if they're part of the same series.

I'm not asking you if you prefer the movie Aliens or your most comfortable pair of sneakers -- these two films are are highly comparable.

It's okay to say that you prefer Game of Thrones to Lord of the Rings or REH's Conan stories.

I like Citizen Kang, but I don't like Oliver!.

Alien is a good sci-fi/suspense type movie. Aliens is a bad-ass action flick.
Alien wins on account of Sigourney Weaver's nips. It is the exact moment in my life when I decided I like girls too.

No it isn't crazy - just that when we do so, it makes sense to add the caveat about their differences...so that when we express a preference we are giving an INFORMED opinion...anything else is JUST NOISE NOISE!!!

Love'em both but Alien by a hair.

Aliens by a large margin. I saw Aliens more times than I can count before I ever, even, saw Alien. Some label it an action sci-fi film but it has a lot of horror elements like its predecessor. Instead of one monster the heroes must fight an entire army of them.

Lovecraftian horror flic, or sci-fi action flic. I go with the original, easy choice.

The second,plural movie---noisier,yet easier on my nerves.

They were both good, so it's hard to choose just one, but I don't want to get it wrong and not pick the better one that's has greater rewatchability.

So I had to pick Aliens.

It was the only way to be sure.

Alien. It's more suspenseful and interesting in my opinion.

The second one was okay, but more of a conventional action movie with the typical gang of likeable rogues who get picked off one-by-one, etc. Ripley becomes a female Arnie...I dunno. The second one seemed more typically like a 'colour by numbers' thing, IMO.

This. Alien is a haunted house story in Outer Space, Aliens is an Action Movie and both are awesome.
