Get ready to become even more excited on Tuesday, Rick ... the rumours were true! [bigred]The Mod Squad: Season One, Vol. 1[/bigred] [lilred]December 18, 2007[/lilred] Amazon.com Revisiting this groovy, groundbreaking 1968 series is anything but a bum trip! The Mod Squad was a hip makeover of the traditional cop show. The Squad was comprised of three "lonely, angry kids," one black, one white, one blonde: "Linc" Hayes (Clarence Williams III), a soul brother from Watts; privileged rebel Pete Cochran (Michael Cole), who split from his 14-room home in Beverly Hills; and runaway Julie Barnes (quintessential hippie chick Peggy Lipton), described as "a "canary with a broken wing." Their mentor is Capt. Adam Greer (the late Tige Andrews), who bucks his superiors to form the squad. "The times are changing," he argues. "They can get into places we can't," like a high school to solve a teacher's murder, an underground newspaper plagued by a bomber, and an acting class to flush out a strangler who preys on blonde actresses. The trio are perfectly matched, with Cole doing his tortured James Dean bit and Williams simply the coolest cat on TV (undercover as a high school teacher, Linc calms the unruly students by asking them how they want to learn about the Civil War: "the book version, or like it was?" Julie is all too often a damsel in distress when she's not being used as bait. The Mod Squad bridged the generation gap. Kids dug that the Squad walked the walk and talked the talk ("Solid"), didn't carry heat, and didn't bust their own. Adults dug Capt. Greer, who played "Mr. Tough Cop," but was more like a father figure, and was anything but square. "What do I have to do to win your trust?" he thunders in the episode "The Guru," "wear beads?" He does let his guard down in the memorable episode "The Price of Terror," in which he is being stalked. The Mod Squad got further cred from a roster of veteran character actors, many cast against type in villainous roles, including J. Pat O'Malley (the voice of Colonel Hathi in Disney's The Jungle Book) in "Bad Man on Campus." It's also fun to spot future stars, such as future Oscar-winner Louis Gossett Jr. as a falsely accused Vietnam vet in "When Smitty Comes Marching Home." And that uniformed cop who gets the drop on Pete in the pilot episode? An unbilled Harrison Ford!
There is no cast commentary, but this four-disc set contains new interviews with Cole and a still ravishing Lipton that put the show in pop-culture context. A warning if you love The Mod Squad's classic theme song: It is used ad nauseum in one of the featurettes to punch up some 1968 factoids. But that's the only bummer in this otherwise far-out release.Product Description Meet Pete, Linc and Julie: The Mod Squad. This trio consisted of rich, long-haired Pete Cochran, Lincoln "Linc" Hayes from the tough streets of inner city Los Angeles, and beautiful flower child Julie Barnes, a runaway from San Francisco. They’re recruited by police captain Adam Greer (Tiger Andrews) for a covert unit that will help bridge the generation gap. Each week these three cops with love beads wrestled with criminals – and their own consciences. They may have been the "fuzz," but they were determined to never compromise their values. I'm still upset that I wasn't chosen to be Link in the big-screen movie version. A role I was born to play.

March 11 will see the release of Season 1, Volume 2. I hate these overprived half-season sets, but the first half was really groovy. [bigred]The Mod Squad: Season One, Vol. 2[/bigred] [lilred]March 11, 2008[/lilred] "The times they are a changin’," the Dylan-quoting Julie (Peggy Lipton) smiles as she shows her cop credentials to a uniformed policeman. As [title]The Mod Squad[/title]’s first season unfolds, the idea that this groovy hippie chick, too-cool soul brother Linc (Clarence Williams III) and tightly-wound rebel with a cause Pete (Michael Cole) could be the fuzz is still pretty far out ("The one thing these guys are not is cops," laughs one member of a gang that Pete and Linc infiltrate in one episode). The Mod Squad may be a tad dated, but compared to ultra unhip shows like Dragnet, it was truly radical in its day. And it could deal with then contemporary issues that more traditional cop shows could, or did, not. In "Peace Now-Arly Blau!", Pete and Linc go undercover behind bars to protect the life of a Vietnam War protestor and pacifist, whose father just happens to be a general. But for the most part, these episodes aren’t all that subversive. In "Hello Mother, My Name is Julie," Julie’s wayward mom has cleaned up her act and announces that she is engaged. Her fiancée, of course, is the "Mr. Big" whom Pete and Linc are trying to nail. In "Flight Five Doesn’t Answer," Pete, Linc, and their mentor, Capt. Greer (Tige Andrews) transport a mob boss by plane that assassins force to crash land in the desert. In the season finale, "A Seat by the Window," the trio splits up to board "three busses full of suspects" to catch a bus stop killer. Following the episode, "The Price of Terror" (included on Volume 1), the generation gap between Greer and his Squad is further bridged in "The Uptight Town," in which a search for the missing Greer leads the trio to a small town hiding a deadly secret (not to mention Greer!) The guest star wattage burns pretty hot, especially in the episode, "Keep the Faith, Baby," featuring Sammy Davis, Jr. as an activist priest and Robert Duvall as a murderer not sure whether he’ll break the seal of confession. The lone extra feature is devoted to Lipton’s iconic and trendsetting look as the lithe and lovely Julie. Seen decades later, many old TV shows are a bust, but The Mod Squad was made with care and conviction. To review it is to echo Julie in the episode, "Child of Sorrow, Child of Light," after she helps to break up a crooked adoption scam: "Sometimes I love this job." Included in this set are the final 13 episodes that comprised the first season: The Sunday Drivers; Hello Mother, My Name is Julie; Flight Five Doesn't Answer; Shell Game; Fear is the Bucking Horse; A Hint of Darkness, A Hint of Light; The Uptight Town; A Reign of Guns; A Run for the Money; Child of Sorrow, Child of Light; Keep the Faith, Baby; Captain Greer, Call Surgery; Peace Now - Arly Blau; and A Seat by the Window. Specials on this DVD set include a featurette on the "mod" style of Peggy Lipton. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0011NVCA2/?tag=imwan-20

[bigred]The Mod Squad: Season 2, Volume 1[/bigred] [lilred]November 25, 2008[/lilred] Amazon.com It took only one season for old-school cop Capt. Greer (Tige Andrews), and his new-school undercover Mod Squad to bridge their generation gap. In the season opener, "The Girl in Chair Nine," a psychic tells Julie (Peggy Lipton) that she has two men in her life; that would be Pete (Michael Cole) and Linc (Clarence Williams III). But there is a third, she corrects him: Capt. Greer. And in the episode, "An Eye for an Eye," the trio get involved when Greer’s new girlfriend is kidnapped, culminating in an emotional scene in which Linc must stop him from crossing the line in confronting a suspect. Later, Greer thankfully proclaims of his young charges, "This is my family." Too touchy-feely? Not to worry; there’s plenty of groovy cop-show action in these 13 solid episodes. As Julie observes at one pont, "When something’s happening, you’ve got to go where it’s at," and the youngsters come to the aid of a Mexican urchin used by two thieves in a series of robberies, try to cool tensions when a black student is killed during a college protest, investigate the murder of a washed-up country singer, and expose a phony healer. One case hits real close to home when Pete is framed for murder. Two welcome returns in this season’s first half are Marvin Kaplan as kindly Sol Alpert (one of the passengers on the ill-fated airplane in the Season One episode, "Flight Five Doesn’t Answer"), whose cousin is revealed to be a bigoted slumlord in "In This Corner-Sol Alpert", and the trio’s trusty Woody station wagon, which has a heroic last hurrah in "The Death of Wild Bill Hannachek." Notable guest stars include Carolyn Jones (The Addams Family) as a woman traumatized by her husband’s suicide in "Lisa," Maurice Evans as a charming con man in "Never Give the Fuzz an Even Break," and a quite fetching Tyne Daly as a waitress in "Hannachek." From a Raquel Welch reference to covers of songs by Poco and Carole King, The Mod Squad is stuck in the ‘60s. But the seamless ensemble lifts it beyond time capsule status. As Capt. Greer says at one point, "Like the kids say, 'It’s something else.'" --Donald LiebensonEpisodes included in this DVD set, with their original airdates and brief description are: The Girl in Chair Nine (9/23/1969), the Squad befriends a young mother; My Name is Manolette (9/30/1969), the Squad "adopts" a nine-year-old boy; An Eye for an Eye (10/7/1969), Capt. Greer falls in love unaware that he puts the woman in danger; Ride the Man Down (10/14/1969), Pete is framed for murder; To Linc - With Love (10/21/1969), Linc falls in love; Lisa (11/4/1969), the squad helps a woman with a split personality; Confrontation! (11/11/1969), racial strife and murder at a college; Willie Poor Boy (11/18/1969), Pete helps an illiterate boy accused of robbery; The Death of Bill Hannachek (11/25/1969), Julie poses as a country western singer; A Place to Run, A Heart to Hide In (12/2/1969), the Squad pose as college students to investigate a murder; The Healer (12/9/1969), the Squad investigate a faith healer after a patient dies; In this Corner - Sol Albert (12/16/1969), the Squad try to find a slum landlord; and Never Give the Fuzz an Even Break (12/23/1969), the Squad try to catch a con man with a con. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001DHXT5W/?tag=imwan-20

Well, it came today! Mod Squad// Complete Collection/all 5 seasons,123 episodes. I have been awaiting for many of a month but it worked out to my advantage. Amazon price was under $30.00 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LTHOP76/?tag=imwan-20This was one of my mothers and I favorite TV shows we would watch together. Great to have re-mastered shows offered in their entirety and in sequence. I will be watching this box for my W/E marathon (make that a month. Having such a crush on Peggy Lipton her alone made the show a must watch but Link was so cool too it was "Solid". And alittle Peggy for all of ya (because it's the W/E and I am willing to share my girl) : Rick A.

Peggy still looks good.
And her daughter's quite the charmer as well.
If you didn't see it, Peggy appeared as Angie's mom on Angie Tribeca last season. They should be doing a marathon of that season soon because season 3 starts soon.

It's a funny scene. Pretty self-referential, as I recall. Heather Graham was on for most of the season - that sure didn't hurt!
