There's different versions of this....the TV series that continues on into movies with the same cast (Firefly), or the "next generation" that lives in the same universe as the original (1987's Dragnet movie). There's also the movie happening while the TV show is still running (The Simpsons, Batman, X-Files, etc).
But is it possible that the first movie reboot (new cast playing pre-existing characters) of an ended TV series was 1987's The Untouchables? It seems like they've been happening a lot longer than that.

Peter Cushing played Doctor Who only in the movies, and he was a different character to the TV series - I'd say that predates The Untouchables by a fair margin.

Superman? Or was there a movie before the George Reeves series? Same for the Batman Serials?

This link might help a bit.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_f ... n_programsThe movie House Of Dark Shadows was made in 1970, but there are no doubt earlier examples (I didn't look for that long, to be honest). Edit - a movie version of Dragnet from 1954 was the earliest one I spotted!

The Addams Family and The Munsters were shows that spawned a few movies.
Ah, a whole link. Well, sure.
