Hey, I'm just starting to look at the possibility of getting me some sort of three-wheeled adult bike, maybe something like this Mobo triton: The idea is that with a reclining seat instead of a normal saddle, I think my back would hold up better. Does anyWAN on the forum have any experience with these? Thanks in advance for any advise.

I don't, but I do have a recumbent exercise bike and found it was MUCH more comfortable than a conventional one. Also, your center of gravity is different, so you're not using all the flexor and extensor muscles in the same manner you would do on a conventional bicycle. I think this looks like a good option.

I saw a funky, reverse-trike foldable one with like a mile of chain, which looked funky as all get out, but they want three grand for it. The one pictures above is trending $368-$400+ depending on which color you want. SIlver-white seems to be the most expensive, red the cheapest, and orange or blue somewhere in between.

Well, I'd go for orange due to the visibility of it, but that's just me.

Have you considered a three-seater? You, Tom and Jim could ride together.

Does that Mobo have pedals connected directly to the wheel, like a kid's trike? That would suck.
Something with a chain drive and multiple gears would be much better.
Penn Jillette has talked about riding around on trikes with one if his buddies (I gather they did this fairly often). I think they were TerraTrike brand.

Yeah, I've grown increasingly worried about the pedals directly on the front wheel. Even though I would mainly be wanting to ride on the state trail, the idea of a one speed bike doesn't sit well with me even if I'm able to sit well in the bike. I've been looking at the "cheaper" chain-driven ones on YouTube, which are 5–10 times the price. One of the Performer brand recumbent trikes or bikes might be a better choice.

Are there nearby dealers for any of the brands? I don't think I'd like to order such a thing without trying one out.

That seems like the sort of bike I would like. Takes all the pressure off your rear and back, while still getting the desired workout. My fear with something like that is that it's down quite low, and if you're in an area without nice bike trails, traffic could be dangerous. You'd need a flag or something, I think. Perhaps a large neon sign.

My former Dean of Education is a huge bike guy, and I'm seeing if he knows anything about recumbent bikes and/or trikes. And yeah, especially at $1600+, I'd want a test ride before committing. A guy in a YouTube said he got into them first via a cheaper, used one.

Orange. You know it makes sense. High visibility, low emissions, bad taste orange.

The low-riders I've seen on the trail have flags on flexible poles in the back. A rider on YouTube mentioned that they are still novel and unusual-looking, that drivers notice them and are well aware of them because of that. Many of the recumbent bikes do have you nearly as high up as conventional bikes do.

A direct pedal connection does allow you to backup...but in general, I would prefer a chain drive like a bike.

This Finnish shaft-driven design is pretty cool. Apparently some people have had problems maintaining the very long chains required for the recumbent bikes/trikes, so they developed this shaft-driven one about 2009, and started manufacturing circa 2012. It does have more of a saddle seat, but so you can easily drop your legs down to sop/stand.
