One of the most underrated artists of all time, in my book. He was among the very first artists I ever took special notice of -- his artwork and accurate likenesses in Cracked Magazine only made you wish he was the one drawing the official movie adaptations.

His work over Herb Trimpe on the Hulk was wonderful as well, though he totally overpowered Trimpe's style,,, but since I like Severin about 100 times more, that's a plus in my book.

Beautiful work. And a more normal sized Hulk!

He's brilliant...and that's one of the best versions of the Hulk I've ever seen. He really is/was an unsung hero.

I think a lot of that was due to his aversion to superheroes. Luckily for him, he hooked up with Cracked Magazine, Creepy, and other comics magazines and this allowed him to avoid the genre. I imagine he wanted to continue doing EC material his entire career.

I didn't know that about him. I'd love to have seen him drawing something like the Atomic Knights, or Challengers of The Unknown.

He probably would have been up for it -- he was like Buscema, he didn't like drawing superheroes but enjoyed drawing just about every other type of adventure strip.

Here's a very in-depth interview with him, if you're interested: http://www.tcj.com/the-john-severin-int ... arts-i-ii/

That's one of the best interviews with a comic artist I've ever read, Hanzo. What a great insight into a bygone era. I loved his early life drawing cartoons for the 'hobo' magazine and such.

Trimpe/Severin is one of the great unsung pairings in Marvel comics. Trimpe's layouts and Severin's polish are fantastic together.
