Bannings: If you're not nice
The little I've heard about it seems to tread the same path as The Superior Spider-Man, which I loved -- a villain uses his skills and pragmatism to become a more effective version of the hero he's replacing.

However, it's written by Brian Michael Bendis, whose work I usually don't love.

So tell me, IMWAN, should I try out a few issues or not? Would I like it? Do you like it?

I vote no. Brian Michael Bendis is not to be encouraged, nor is Marvel for using him. Not that I give Marvel much money on a monthly basis, outside their Star Wars books.

I enjoy some of BMB's work and think he tends to be much stronger on the "non-event" type books like Daredevil and Powers.

But if you don't like Bendis, I doubt him recycling an idea from a beloved Spider-Man run will change your mind. I always think it's better to approach books with the creators in mind more than the characters or premise... but everyone's different.

I used to approach comics with the artist foremost in mind (about 90%) and the concept in second place (10%).

This approach never failed me...until I started disliking most of the artists. After that, my method failed, and I stopped loving comics and started loving other things (as a wise man once put it).

There's got to be a parallel universe where John Buscema was the artist on Werewolf By Night and Howard the Duck, and in that parallel universe I am somehow am a much wiser, smarter, kinder person than I am in this universe. :)

I read it. It was ok. I liked the Superior Spider-man stuff better.

I love how people always reference his stronger work, which was 15 years ago.

His old stuff was better. Now he's Brian "Not Even Tryin'" Bendis.

I got into Superior Spider-Man based on your recommendations. Now, I am enjoying Infamous Iron Man, but for none of the reasons I liked Superior Spider-Man. That book had a different kind of "fun" to it.

I remember reading two really good new Daredevil books in as many months, and having to check
who the author was because the writing really was good. Turns out that was very early DD BENDIS!
Once he left DD, I followed him to other books, but nothing he did later ever seemed as good for me.

The consensus here doesn't sound promising. Okay, I'll pass.
