Is Pop Market done?

I noticed a few weeks ago that my mailbox wasn't getting blasted with 3 different deal e-mails everyday. Went to the website and it has a message saying they are doing some type of update. It's been that way for a few weeks and now I'm wondering if they really are doing an update or if they are figuring out if they are going to continue or fold. Seems to me this was either owned by Sony or had some strong affiliation with Sony when it first launched but that may have changed over time.

It's no great loss for me. I hadn't lost interest to the point where I was going to unsubscribe from their e-mail list but probably hadn't ordered anything from them for the last three years.

But it's a real shame because when it first launched it seemed like a good concept. One deal a day, normally really expensive box set offered at a very low price. It was disappointing to see them do such a radical transition to where it seemed that almost everything they were offering were vinyl bundles. The site almost became completely worthless if for CD buyers.

Now that you mentioned it, I haven't received squat from them for quite a while now. And yeah, it was disappointing to me that most of their offers were vinyl.

I bought from them only twice.... the Billy Joel box set and a CCR set. Good shipping and all that.

i remember having a bad experience with them one time and never went back.

i tried and tried to order something, (can't recall what it was) and the order just would never go through, i finally gave up.

My experience mirrors Joseph's. I did avail myself of some offers over the years, especially early on, with a few great deals. But the deals are now few and far between, and lately their items are seemingly 90% vinyl. I've been deleting most of their e-mails without even opening, but did notice they stopped coming a few weeks ago.

I'd love to see them get back to their original mission, but highly doubt it'll happen.

We really don't need them so I don't miss them.

Bought a couple things from them, but it's been almost all vinyl, and not at great prices. Almost bought the Richard Pryor box set a few weeks back - it was a rare good deal.

I was never able to get their website to work either. And I didn't find most of the emails to be all that cheap.

I gave up on Pop Mart years ago when postage went from a few dollars to $20 per order.
Plus it's vinyl, vinyl, vinyl!

I only ordered from them once. Got the 4-LP expanded version of Weezer's Pinkerton for a reasonable price and free shipping. Had no issues with them. They occasionally had very good deals that I should have jumped on but quickly sold out.

I unsubscribed to their e-mails ages ago. They were clogging up my box something awful.

A few months ago they tweeted that a member of the team had a very serious personal tragedy (or something to that effect).

Very sad to hear. Over the years I scored some great stuff from them. I am sure they will make a comeback.

Website now gone.

Lots of angry people on the popmarket facebook page that had paid for orders, never received them, and now have nobody to contact at popmarket because it seems the company is now dead. Not surprising that any pre-recorded music business would go under in today's climate...but surprised about the abrupt ending to this one considering there was some type of relationship between them and Sony at one point (I could almost swear that when it first started it was actually referred to as Sony's PopMarket).

Posted on Twitter, today.

Hey Everyone,
DirectToU, the company behind Collectors' Choice Music and Vinyl, Critics' Choice Video and DeepDiscount.com, has just acquired the assets of PopMarket. We are very excited to continue the work that PopMarket has done over the years to expand the knowledge and availability of great music.
Right now we are loading in the unfilled PopMarket orders with the goal of shipping these out early next week. We will be in touch soon after with any customer that has an order that we are not able to fill.
Thank you for your continued patience. We can not wait to show you all the new stuff we have to offer and look forward to earning your continued support.

Boy I haven't bought anything from Collectors Choice in years, do they still send out a catalog?

I don't think so. They had a website at least through a couple years ago. DD clearanced all the CCM live cd's.

I get the CCM catalog also. I think it shows up every couple of months. But I haven't bought anything from them since the guy running it left to start Real Gone Music.
