Next year Universal is releasing a 13-disc Vangelis box set covering his Vertigo and Polydor albums from 73-85. Includes b-sides and four unreleased tracks. Sadly it doesn't look like there's anything extra on the Chariots of Fire CD. :/

Click for full size

Description
A 13-disc boxed set which will see all of Vangelis’ classic works recorded for the Vertigo and Polydor labels gathered together and remastered in a lavish box with essay and many photographs. The discs are housed in two die-cut, gatefold disc holders within a rigid 242mm square slipcase and alongside a substantial (probably 64-page) book, much like the recent Steve Hackett ‘Premonitions’ set. Featuring the albums “Earth”, “L’Apocalypse Des Animaux”, “Opera Sauvage”, “See You Later”, “Chariots of Fire”, “Antarctica”, “Mask”, “Invisible Connections” and his collaborative albums with Jon Anderson as JON & VANGELIS; “Short Stories”, “The Friends of Mr Cairo” & “Private Collection”. Includes rare B-sides and previously unreleased tracks.

This is the first ever collection of music remastered under the supervision of Vangelis himself.

ahem... you don't have remasters of the first 3 Jon & Vangelis projects, rick.
it's shamefully about the only reason i'm buying the set.

no hate-mail, please... i don't mind Vangelis' solo work, it just doesn't interest me much.

Tempting. I have all of these on CD except "See You Later" (have on vinyl), and "Private Collection", which I had for awhile but sold. It would be great to have remasters of the early albums like "Earth" and "L'Apocalypse Des Animaux". I'll have to know more about the extra tracks (How many? how long? how good?). Also, did I hear years ago that Vangelis didn't just remaster his albums, he sometimes remixed or re-recorded parts, much like Tangerine Dream? That could be a big problem...

wow... thanks for the "heads-up" about remixing - i'll keep that in mind.
remixing is why i didn't buy the most recent round of Genesis cd's.
in my audiophile world, remixing = remaking.

Well, I'm not sure at all about that, I just seem to remember something mentioned in an article years ago about him tinkering with the tracks on a re-release... For all I know, it may have been Kitaro or Jean-Michel Jarre, or it could have been his soundtrack to "Blade Runner", which of course has several versions floating around. By the way, the "Prog" magazine site has an article about this release which says this box also contains "Soil Festivities" and "China", which indeed were on Polydor and bring the total number of albums to 13, matching the number of discs in the box....

I found that you can get this from Amazon France for $48.00 which includes mailing. I'm in!

And your right RackleNut, I do need to upgrade the first 3 Jon & Vangelis projects.

thanks for the price-point tip, rick.

and the 4th Jon & Vangelis "Page of LIfe" was recently remastered and released with the bonus b-side track "sing with your eyes."
worth picking-up, in my humble opinion.

The French listing is dead and might have been a pricing error (in which case it will probably be cancelled).

The Amazon UK listing is back to being the best option for now.

thanks for the update, Linda.
i tried the amazon.fr just this morning which resulted in the item showing as unavailable.
i'll ride it out with my amazon.co.uk pre-order and hope for a few price reductions along the way.

Can we tell if the hit single version of "Chariots Of Fire" (subtitled "Titles") is included on this set? "Titles" on the soundtrack album ran about 20 mins.

This line "Indeed, we were forced to delete this article in a limited edition of your selection, due to out of stock at our provider. Not are currently not able to tell us if this article will be relisted soon."

They actually informed not to long ago about a move up date of delivery and now this. And oh yeah, they will relist just not at the price I locked in as.

Nice the of the voucher but it's really nothing in comparison to savings I "locked in"

box set design, contents, presentation = B- (no printed lyrics, cardboard slots for discs - overall, a bit dull)

sound quality vis-a-vis remastering by Vangelis = B+ (many of the original master were overall, a bit dull; but the new mastering is (for lack of a better word) odd - improved, but not great)

just one audiophile's opinion.

Thanks! By the way, did you get the latest Prog issue? Vangelis is on the front cover as pictured below. Interesting interview.

rick, i currently do not subscribe to any music magazines (or magazines of any kind, for that matter).
i watch for the occasional article or mix-disc that you see once in a while, but that's it.

the Jon & Vangelis article interests me, i will admit.

I as well do not subscribe, BUT when I venture into my local Barnes & Nobles I seem to always bring home something like this.

There is a cool photo of Jon singing with Vangelis playing his keyboard in one of the photo that you would have liked.

FYI: the remastered individual discs of JON & VANGELIS are now available, BUT...
the title "Private Collection" does NOT contain the bonus track "song is" on the non-box-set edition.
you have been warned!
