I look at the title of this post and think the terms "Absolutely The Best" and "re-recordings" in the same sentence is an oxymoron - not a criticism of Linda's post title, but of the fact that Sunset Blvd. has the nerve to title a re-recordings collection "Absolutely the Best".
"Inferior Re-Recordings" might be a more appropriate title.
And I don't mean to say that, sonically-speaking, these recordings are done poorly. I just know that virtually anytime a fan buys a "Best of" or "Greatest Hits" type of compilation CD of an artist, they are disappointed when they discover that these are not the versions they heard hundreds/thousands of times on the radio and/or CDs/LPs.
i'll agree with you that the title is inappropriate,
but i don't know if the re-recordings are inferior until i hear them.
don't get me wrong - unless he's cleverly recrafted them into new and interesting songs on their own merits - i'll be happy to call them "inferior" as well.
