Is David Ayer Teasing Harley Quinn's 'Gotham City Sirens' Bad Guy?
Has David Ayer just revealed the villain of Gotham City Sirens?
The Suicide Squad director, who's developing the Harley Quinn spin-off with screenwriter Geneva Robertson-Dworet and executive producer/star Margot Robbie, shared an image of the comic book villain Black Mask on Twitter Monday afternoon, sparking speculation that the bad guy will be the main threat of the movie.
If that's the case, it's a good choice. The character, who debuted in 1985's Batman No. 386, is a crime boss who's fascinated with collecting masks — including Batman's cowl, if he could get his hands on it. In recent years, Black Mask has moved towards being a foil for Catwoman — at one point, she and Black Mask were warring crime bosses fighting over Gotham — and the classic femme fatale has already been named as one of Harley Quinn's two partners-in-crime in Sirens, alongside Poison Ivy.
This wouldn't be the first time that Ayer has teased details of his DC movies via Twitter; in 2015, the social media platform was where fans got their first chance to see Jared Leto's Joker. As Suicide Squad headed towards release, the director continued to use Twitter to promote the project, tagging messages with the hashtag #Skwad. Should we be expecting #Sirenz to become a thing before too long?
