Description
The closing of the Fillmore West (actually, the Carousel Ballroom) put a big dent in the 'City By the Bay'. This performance was taken from the closing concerts for the venue. The list of bands that Bill Graham didn't want was also big and the Flamin' Groovies were on it, for years. Their first manager was Bill's right hand man and when he quit working for Bill to manage the Flamin' Groovies this did not sit well with Bill so the Groovies went up and down in Bill's eyes. One week they sucked, "the next week, he needed us to open a show because of a pull-out." So it came as a big surprise when they discovered he wanted them for this big and important event, to participate in a series of shows leading up to the closing of this legendary venue. Roy Loney: "I remember the show well. The difference in playing this gig as opposed to the Whisky-A-Go-Go in L.A. was like night and day. At the Whisky, we were the house band (two summers in a row). At the Fillmore, we were up for grabs. The staff - stage manager, sound people, ticket takers, light show? They all looked down on us and it was all done in the open."

Whoa, a live Roy Loney-era set? Can the sound be decent on this?

I think this has been released before, possibly many times, and if I'm not mistaken this is the same performance.

Rough soundboard recording, I think. Weirdly, "Louie Louie" is mono, but everything else appears to be stereo (sometimes mixed quite unevenly - check "Have You Seen My Baby").

I have this one already - didn't realize it's the same - thanks for the tip!
