The British actor of stage and screen also received an Academy Award nom for 'Midnight Express' and was memorable in 'Alien,' three Harry Potter films and 'Doctor Who.'
Damn! This is sad news. And he was only 77. He looked older, but I guess he wasn't. So many shows and movies - He played so many characters, from Caligula to Aragorn, from Jesus to Mr. Ollivander, from an ancient dragon to Dr. Who; wherever he appeared, he made the show better. I will miss this guy a lot.

Even before he was cast as the War Doctor, John Hurt was a lion in British science fiction. Maybe another English actor could have done as good a job as he did playing the hapless protagonist in 1984, but I doubt it. He also made you believe that he was Caligula even though it was obvious that he should have been too old to be cast in that role. He will definitely be missed.

I'm really going to miss him popping up, but I'll be honest, there's one iconic scene of his, that I don't think I'll ever forget. The line delivery was just perfect.
So thanks for having a sense of humour Mr. Hurt. Godspeed.
