i have bitched about the demise of yahoo, once a great informative website, into a advertisement heaven.

now, when you click on a story, not only does make click a gizzilion more times to read what you want, they have it set to where it takes you to a different website (say, kiplingers) and if you don;t sign up for said website you can;t finish reading the story, that they gave you just enough time to start reading, but wait til click continue to nail you.

i fucking hate yahoo.

Google isn't much better.

To paraphrase David Bowie from Hours, "The Internet Has Gone To Hell".

This thread: blame search engines for sites that go to greater than usual lengths to generate revenue. (It's not Google or Yahoo doing this)

I was attempting to discretely comment on numerous Google links to fake news websites, which recently had a huge impact on the USA, if not on the entire planet..

I also do not like Google's data mining.

What I personally have noticed on Yahoo for about a year is advertisements that pretend to be news stories.

Your not alone, that's why things turned out as they did in Nov.

I have a completely different belief system. If I do not recognize the presenter then I will not even click on it. For a variety of reasons mind you.

Yes, this is a terrible epidemic that I've seen on MANY websites lately. Links at the end of articles which in the past would have been links to related or interesting stories on the site you're browsing, but are now disguised links to fake news or clickbait websites. Disgusting trend.

I miss the days when spam was mostly Viagra ads rather then malware.

Amazingly, I never have a problem when I visit Yahoo's news page.... or any page. NoScript and AdBlock.

I use both also. Yahoo does have some "fake stories" that they put up with regular coding. If one clicks on the click on those specific fake stories, I am taken to a fake story that's really an advertisement for something.

Now that you mention it, that may be why they're doing this; to get around add blockers. These particular adds are a variation on "Spear Phishing", the goal is to get the end user to click on them.

I'm not saying they're malware; they're just annoying.

This fixes most of those type of ads. Follow all the steps carefully.

From Wikipedia: The name TMZ stands for thirty-mile zone, the historic "studio zone" within a 30-mile (50 km) radius centered at the intersection of West Beverly Boulevard and North La Cienega Boulevard in Los Angeles, California.

We won't have Yahoo to kick around anymore. If you use it for your web portal or email, I'd suggest moving elsewhere.

Yahoo, one of the Internet's most venerable companies, won't exist for much longer. Verizon officially acquired Yahoo for $4.8 billion in July, and a new financial filing from the company includes details of what's going to happen.

Wonder what will happen to the email servers. Their addresses are good for spam traps.

Yeah, Yahoo is the addy I use when I sign up for most things. I get all kinds of shit in there. The Spam filter catches most if it. Gmail has the best spam filter I've ever seen.

It's probably because they desperately need revenue -- sadly, this practice is likely only accelerating their decline. Rock and a hard place.
