Was out last night with Mrs. DFT at one of those local town art fest nights. We ambled around, had a few beers, popped in to check out some of the groups, and did a little shopping. In one of these places I came across a pretty large cache of 1950s–70s jazz LPs from the Verve, Blue Note, Prestige, Riverside, and Columbia labels (others too). Quite a few were first pressings and in immaculate condition. I started to sweat, and imagined myself walking out of there with all for a $1 apiece. Not to be. I made a stack of twenty, and a nice lady went off and priced them … at “collectors” prices. Damn. Incredibly tho, I walked out of there with two Miles Davis Prestige first pressings at $5 apiece. Not sure what site she was getting her pricing from, but the prices of the Blue Notes in my pile were incredibly low, tho still way out of my price range. I will say that everything I wanted I already have on CD, and would’ve bought most of these to resell. Just wish I’d stumbled over these at a Goodwill!
