Frankly I think the Honeymooners is something that should be left to Jackie Gleason and Art Carney. Ralph and Ed are two of a kind, a product of their era and their original creation. Just one of those things where no one else can play them.

yeah it's basically every sitcom since, even Kevin Can Wait is an offshoot of the Honeymooners setup.

I did not know that the show ran for only 39 episodes, the 'Classic' episodes. I assumed it had run for many years.

That's because there were a ton of specials and "the lost episodes" that filled out to over 100. They were also a skit on Gleason's self titled variety show before that, so they were in the public consciousness for much more than just 39 episodes rerun endlessly.

Any pending ideas could have appeared in the 6 seasons and 166 episodes of The Flintstones after that with no great loss.
Yeah, the #2 cartoon of all time, right behind The Simpsons.
