The wall on which the prophets wrote is cracking at the seams. upon the instruments of death the sunlight brightly gleams. when every man is torn apart with nightmares and with dreams, will no one lay the laurel wreath as silence drowns the screams. Between the iron gates of fate, the seeds of time were sown, and watered by the deeds of those who know and who are known; knowledge is a deadly friend when no one sets the rules. the fate of all mankind i see is in the hands of fools. Confusion will be my epitaph. as i crawl a cracked and broken path if we make it we can all sit back and laugh, but i fear tomorrow i'll be crying, yes i fear tomorrow i'll be crying.

This is the song that's been playing in my head since I heard the news this morning. RIP, Mr. Lake.
I hate this fuck'in year. First David, then Keith and now Greg.
I have seen ELP about 15 times throughout the decades and last saw Greg Lake Saturday, April 28, 2012 for his "Songs Of A Lifetime" tour.
I hadn't known he was sick. When I saw Carl Palmer just very recently I had asked him how Greg was and he didn't respond. I thought maybe he didn't hear me but now most likely didn't want to relay anything out of respect for his privacy.
His work is without question some of the best in Rock history. May he now jam with Keith in heaven as they once did here on earth.
Thank you Greg for the countless hours of emotional replenishment throughout my life. I would not be anything that I am today as a person without yours and Keith's music.
I'm so glad I caught the very personal tour a few years ago with Greg and Keith together at Westbury. We got to hear more personal stories as it was just two guys, none of the bombast of ELP. Greg was in good spirits that night but you could see that aging was not agreeing with him.

When ELP started touring again in the 90s, I was stunned by the change in Greg's voice, the register was so much deeper it sounded like a different person. But the trio will always be a favorite of mine.
The beautiful lullaby from Works Vol. 2 seems to take on a special poignancy now.

I was going to fly up to New York for this show and catch up with an old buddy but it didn't work out. I should have gone by myself anyway.
My understanding that one or more of these shows were filmed. Let's hope for a release some day.
John and others who play guitar, I saw this posting on the Hoffman page, you guys might like it.
A guitar lesson video for "From The Beginning" and studied it. Truly a great guitar piece from Mr. Lake
RIP. I was into ELP when I was in secondary school.

I'd like to say, "this has got to stop"; but for most of us our heroes are at that age. Doesn't make all the deaths any less awful, though.
Sorry to be morbid, but it's only going to get worse as time goes on. Dylan, McCartney, Starr, Wonder, Allman, Jagger, Richards, Aretha, Townshend, Simon, Young, Page, Plant, Springsteen, Winwood, Taylor, Wilson, etc., etc. Depressing to think about it.

Rick A.
I remember as a teenaged budding guitarist, it was a big deal to learn the intros to From The Beginning & Roundabout.

I just wrote elsewhere: I know it's popular to blame 2016 for all the musicians who have passed away this year, but I fear the next 15 years are going to be brutal for those of us who like "artists of a certain age" (60 & up). It's just beginning...

I started out collecting baseball cards in the late 50's...most of those guys have already met their maker. There are just a handful of rock n roll stars left from the 50's and it seems that every week there is a musical talent from the last 50 years that is checking out.
Someday there will only be two left, Jerry Lee Lewis and Keith Richards. Either they have made a deal with the devil (how else can you explain why they are still alive after living life the way they did) or the are truly the living dead.
