Description
Music has been a constant in human history, voice and instrument joining in more or less the same form for centuries. Then sound recording transformed music forever. This eight-part television event traces this ongoing sonic revolution, and explores the nexus of cutting-edge technology and human artistry that has created the soundtrack of our lives.

Soundbreaking presents more than 150 original interviews with some of the most celebrated recording artists, producers, and music industry pioneers of all time, including Paul McCartney, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Joni Mitchell, Tony Bennett, Dave Grohl, Debbie Harry, Chuck D, BB King, Hans Zimmer, George Martin, Tom Petty, Annie Lennox, Smokey Robinson, Quincy Jones, RZA, St. Vincent, Rick Rubin, Bonnie Raitt, and Questlove. Featuring more than 200 songs, this series charts a century's worth of innovation and experimentation. From the Beatles groundbreaking use of multitrack technology to the synthesized stylings of Stevie Wonder, from disco-era drum machines to the modern art of sampling, Soundbreaking makes us hear the songs we love in a whole new way.

Features
Elton John & George Martin in Conversation (2 min.)

Rosanne Cash on Sun Studios (3 min.)
Linda Perry on writing "Get the Party Started" and finding Pink (5 min.)

This looks fantastic! I always wanted to hear (and see) the people who collaborated with musicians we love and respect.

This is currently airing on PBS stations, in one-hour installments. I caught some of the episode about electric instruments, from guitars to synths. What's included is terrific; what's left out can be eternally debated (the synths segment covers Wendy Carlos and Tonto's Expanding Headband, but makes no mention of Tangerine Dream or Kraftwerk?)

Check your local listings, try it out to see if it's worth owning.

Some of the Kraftwerk stuff that was cut out. Maybe bonus features?
