Description
Following on from the acclaimed Lloyd Cole & the Commotions career box-set comes LLOYD COLE IN NEW YORK. This deluxe limited edition box set charts the next phase in Lloyd’s career after he split from the Commotions and relocated in New York to begin his solo career.

This box charts the beginnings of Lloyd’s solo career with his seminal first four solo albums that sees him experimenting with different genres as he collaborated with artists such as guitarist Robert Quine (Richard Hell & the Voidoids, Lou Reed, Brian Eno), drummer Fred Maher (Lou Reed) and a nascent Matthew Sweet. Smile If You Want To was meant to be Cole’s 5th album yet was never completed. The songs came out on subsequent albums yet this is the first time they have been released as they were originally intended and fully mastered by Abbey Road. The demos cover the period 89-94 and offer an insight into the progression and development of Lloyd’s sound over this time, from early tentative recordings as a solo artist finding his way in his new home to demos he recorded for Love Story where he embraced a more pastoral English sound. The CD includes a version of Nick Cave’s ‘The Ship Song’ never heard before. This box-set can be seen as the next chapter in Lloyd’s career, following on from the Commotions box-set and is an essential item for any fan of Lloyd Cole.

I picked-up the Commotions box a few years ago, and the 4 CD Lloyd Cole solo rarities before that. Both are excellent (especially the solo rarities). Can't wait for this one!

I have the other two boxes as well, and love them. This should be the best of the bunch. In my opinion this is his most creative and interesting period. Can't wait!

From Lloyd's website:

Quote:
Commotions Collected Recordings 1983-1989 was received so warmly, was universally acclaimed, and sold out more quickly than UMG anticipated. A second box is proposed, and work has begun. Spanning 1989 – 1996 – LC’s first four solo albums, the lost fifth album, plus rarities and videos is penciled by UMG for a September release. A second pressing of the Commotions box is coming, Omnivore are in discussions with UMG and LC with a mind to release single album deluxe editions in vinyl and CD format.

Hey, did anybody here receive their order of this Lloyd Cole box yet?

I placed an order way back in January, and on March 16 Amazon UK sent me an email that the order had been dispatched.

Two days ago I received another email that my "return" had been processed, and that my "refund" was complete. :-o

I have not received the order, but I certainly did not request or authorize a return, or ask for a refund. It appears that my order was returned to Amazon UK, because I finally got my money refunded today on my credit card I used to place the order. I have placed many orders with AmazonUK and this is the first time something like this has happened. One of my orders from several years ago never arrived, but AmazonUK sent a replacement order that arrived quickly, and I have not had any issues since.

I finally found a way to contact AmazonUK Customer Services by email (their menus are extremely difficult to navigate), so I am awaiting their response Their auto-reply message I got indicated this could take six hours.

Hopefully nobody else has had problems like this...

AmazonUK sent me a nice response, complete with an apology but no concrete reason why the package was returned to them. They even offered to let me purchase the item again at the current price, and they would refund the new shipping charges and the price difference from what it cost on my cancelled order, if I emailed the details to them. In essence, I would get the box for the "Pre-Order Guarantee" price with basically free shipping.

I considered doing so, but did not want to go through the hassle and more delays for overseas delivery, so instead I ordered "In New York: Collected Recordings 1988-1996" directly from Lloyd Cole's web store. Two days later, it arrived at my house. Sure, I paid more money than I had planned originally, but I got the set much quicker this way, and I am now enjoying it thoroughly.
