Lois Lane's only reason to exist is to be a prop of Superman's.

Discuss.

She and Jimmy Olsen are the butterflies. They set up the chain of events (chaos) that Superman then has to resolve. If it hadn't been them, however, it would have been someone else. Superman needs to have someone close to him, else he goes mad. In his guise of Clark Kent he is able to do that, but it bleeds over into his alter ego, the Uberman, without him realizing it. He develops a familiarity for these people which leads to the catastrophic events they feel safe initiating knowing he will, eventually, save them.

So......... a prop, yes. A plot device. A pivot point. An access point into Superman's id.

That, too. The thing with Green Lantern. Totally true.

Kind of scary to think that Superman, of all people, might have an id....

But not so hard to think he, of all people, has a Super Ego Image

Yes. All the supporting characters and villains are there as props to Superman.

Yes, it really is a bit scary.

This means that Robin was a prop for Batman, Steve Trevor was a prop for Wonder Woman and Iris West was a prop for the Flash.

It's kind of unsettling to think about too much. :D

One of my favorite gags from the 1970's PLOP! comic:

If I were to "pretend" to fall out a window, I would have a bungie cord/parachute/other plan B.

I also like how the artwork is completely spot on for the '70s.
