I got an e-mail from Sam Phillips today, announcing a digital EP, "Human Contact is Never Easy," that features songs from a new album due out next year.

Here's Sam's explanation:

While finishing a new album, I am releasing an 8-song digital SAMpler called HUMAN CONTACT IS NEVER EASY, available to download on my website or on Amazon, iTunes and Bandcamp. I thought sending some new songs out into the world would be a good way to end this tough year."

I was going to order the EP from her website, but I couldn't tell if it was secure or not.

It's just poorly designed. The entire ordering process takes place inside a little frame. But the cart itself is secure.

if we could only get the track "it came upon a midnight clear" finally released on cd.
(from the movie "A Midnight Clear" and a hauntingly gorgeous arrangement.)

I hadn't heard her version of that carol in a long time. It is gorgeous! After an extended orchestral introduction, it's just her voice and guitar and she toys around slightly with the tune. Lovely!
