Nice album to play after a beautiful day at the beach. Such fantastic playing with great rhythms, percussion and great southern jazz jams.

Having put out Sea Level’s second and third albums, we’re now polishing off their Capricorn album catalog by releasing the first and last albums on a single CD!

Sea Level had begun as a Allman Brothers spinoff, with three members of the mid-‘70s ABB (keyboardist Chuck Leavell, percussionist Jai Johanny “Jaimoe” Johanson and bassist Lamar Williams) leading their proto-jam band mixture of jazz, blues, and rock on the debut record, which was highlighted by such instrumentals as “The Rain in Spain” and “Tidal Wave” as well as the Leavell organ showcase “Grand Larceny.”

And though the band had changed quite a bit between the first and fourth record—Jaimoe and drummer George Weaver had left, and guitarist Davis Causey, saxophonist/keyboardist Randall Bramblett, and drummer Joe English had joined—the band maintained its superb “level” of musicianship, even though Long Walk on a Short Pier didn’t come out in the U.S. for 20 years due to contractual problems with Capricorn. Both albums have been out of print on CD for over a decade and command huge prices on the reselllers’ market; they appear here with notes by Scott Schinder featuring exclusive quotes from Chuck Leavell himself!

"Fingers Crossed" by Ian Hunter & The Rant Band. God Bless Ian, his 2016 album another killer rocker. What vitamins does this guy take. At 77 most might not be around nether less make an album this good. WOW!

A new studio album "Fingers Crossed" was released worldwide on 16 September 2016 on Proper Records. The album features the song "Dandy" which Hunter wrote about and dedicated to the late David Bowie. The new album has met with very positive reviews from both critics and fans.

Description

Cry Of Love was an American rock band, formed in 1989 in Raleigh, North Carolina. The group released their debut album in 1993, produced by John Custer, before hitting the road for the next 17 months.

After completing their '93-'94 touring cycle, frontman Kelly Holland quit the band, saying he could no longer handle the rigors of the road. They scored a number-one hit on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart with "Peace Pipe" in 1993. Former band member Audley Freed was recruited to The Black Crowes in 1998, and he played with the band until October 2001. He also played on Crowes' lead singer Chris Robinson's second solo album in 2004, and on the subsequent tour. Their former bassist Robert Kearns later played with Lynyrd Skynyrd, after the death of Ean Evans, until early 2012. Freed and Kearns formed a band named Big Hat that also includes Keith Gattis - vocals/guitar; Peter Stroud - guitars; Fred Eltringham - drums; Ike Stubblefield - keyboards. These days, Freed and Kearns, along with Freed's multi-talented wife, Jen, and Stroud, are part of Sheryl Crowe's touring band. Former singer Kelly Holland died from a severe abdominal infection on February 24, 2014 in Raleigh, NC. He was 52.

Really like the debut; the rest of their catalog didn't do much for me. I also saw their 1st tour & interviewed Leavell at the time.

How's the sound quality? I've only heard the mp3, & that was very badly brickwalled.

Other than the greatest hits this is my first entry with Sea Level. Their 4th album on this disc is a dramatic commercial change so I can see what had happened.

Excellent that you got to interview Chuck Leavell, what a fantastic keyboard player, you can see why the Stones stole him away.

After the "Cry of Love" there was no choice to follow-up it up with some Crowes. Classic!

The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion is the second studio album by American rock band The Black Crowes, released on May 12, 1992. It was the first record by the band to feature Marc Ford on lead guitar, replacing Jeff Cease, who was fired the year before. The album's name derives from the full name of the Southern Harmony, an influential 1835 hymnal compiled by William Walker.

It features four hit singles; "Remedy" (#1 on the Album Rock Tracks chart for 11 weeks), "Thorn in My Pride" (#1 on the Album Rock Tracks chart for four weeks), "Sting Me" (#1 on the Album Rock Tracks chart for two weeks), and "Hotel Illness" (#1 on the Album Rock Tracks chart for six weeks). The Black Crowes were an American rock band formed in 1989. Their discography includes eight studio albums, four live albums and several charting singles. The band was signed to Def American Recordings in 1989 by producer George Drakoulias and released their debut album, Shake Your Money Maker, the following year.
The follow-up, The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion, reached the top of the Billboard 200 in 1992.

After a hiatus between 2002 and 2005, the band released Warpaint, which hit number 5 on the Billboard chart. I guess this is their debut album. Shindig raved about the album as being "Bacharach infused dreamy psych-pop, overlain with cinematic cascades to driving R&B". I agree and love it.

Be Here Now is the third studio album by the English rock band Oasis, released on 21 August 1997 by Creation Records. Oasis had achieved worldwide success with their 1994 debut album Definitely Maybe and 1995 follow up (What's the Story) Morning Glory?. The third album was highly anticipated by both fans and music critics. Oasis' management company, Ignition, were aware of the dangers of overexposure, and before release sought to control the media's access to the album. The campaign included limiting pre-release radio airplay and forcing journalists to sign gag orders. The tactics resulted in the alienation of both the press and many industry personnel connected with the band, and fueled large-scale speculation and wide publicity within the British music scene.

On the first day of release, Be Here Now sold over 424,000 copies, becoming the fastest-selling album in British chart history, while initial reviews were overwhelmingly positive. Retrospectively, however, the album is viewed by many music journalists and fans and by most members of the band as over-indulgent and bloated. Great, great album. Playing the original release with "Cigarettes & Alcohol" being so Marc Bolan. I can almost see him smiling down from Heaven.

Definitely Maybe is the debut studio album by the English rock band Oasis, released on 29 August 1994 by Creation Records. It was an immediate commercial and critical success in the UK, having followed on the heels of singles "Supersonic", "Shakermaker" and "Live Forever". It is their only full album to feature original drummer Tony McCarroll.

Definitely Maybe went straight to number one in the UK Albums Chart on initial release. It was the fastest selling debut album of all time in the UK when it was released and went on to be certified 7× Platinum (2.1 million+ sales) by the BPI. Definitely Maybe marked the beginning of Oasis' success in America, selling over one million copies there, despite only peaking at 58 on the Billboard 200. The album went on to sell over 15 million copies worldwide and brought widespread critical acclaim.
